i have a 440 in a coronet,less than a 1k miles on it.problem is after running the car to 5500 rpm through 1st and 2nd initially it wont go past 4000 rpm. it pulls till it reaches 4k then it acts like it has a governor hooked up . new plugs,wires.cant get back online till tomorrow,thanks for your input.mike

Some details would help. Cam, valvetrain and springs. Also the fuel system - line size, pump, filter and any recent changes. Also details on the ignition system.

One thing it may be is the fuel pump.

Bowls are full of fuel. You throttle it up and it runs strong until the bowls run down but will stay there as the fuel pump supplies what it can.

One way to test this is to slowly accelerate to the point you feel the "governor" then go wide open throttle. It should accelerate from there.

thanks for replies.car is a r/t,had a fuel problem last year. when you got on it it would starve and stop running till fuel got back in carb.changed sending unit,800 eddie,filters.turned out to be hose between tank and line.this problem doesnt backfire or stop running like out of fuel.just hits a wall at 4k after heating up? has headers,800 carb elect-ign,msd wires, new plugs. thanks again.

hook a small gas can in the eng compartment to the pump inlet and take it back out
