My 74 Challenger is coming along, the dash is fully rewired with a new harness. One issue, my dash lights rheostat is bad, works for a second then cuts out. As I understand it the rheostat is no longer made or available. Is that correct? Is there a source where I can order a new dimmer rheostat? If not, can it be repaired? Who is a reliable source to repair this part. Thanks.

I'd check ebay, there's a couple of guys restoring these.

What is a ballpark price to have one of these redone? And what kind of turnaround time is there?

Mine is the same way. I have 2 others and none of them work.

There was a guy called "Slotts" either here or on cuda-challenger.com that rebuilds them.

Me - I just bypassed it locally with a jumper at the plug, left the switch in place for looks, and the jumper gives max brightness. No need for dimming.

Thank you Alaskan TA and 72challorange.

Yes, I restore the 2947713 dash dimmer switches by installing a custom made stainless steel resistor coil. Without replacing this, you can see the corrosion that is left behind inside the coil mounting arm. Also shown is how I restore a 2770380 variable speed wiper switch.

I restore the full line of E body switches inside and out.

I have showcased some of my work here: http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=64880.0

Please feel free to contact me at my email address: jsrestorations@rocketmail.com

I will attending Carlisle at booth D27 and the Nats at booth K1.

Thank you,

Slotts

No sweat Jim! I have the old one still, I'll bring it with me. I might just grab one now for the 70 at Carlisle. I'm going to need it someday.
