I've seen a lower rad hose collapse, I've seen the results of lower rad hoses collapsing due to lack of an internal spring in a lower hose, but an upper hose?
I've heard of two upper hoses collapsing on 440 cars in less than one hour, both on an Interceptor mailing list I am on....

Is it common for an upper hose to collpase on a 440? I've never seen it happen myself- maybe with the engine shut down, but not running...?!?!

That's related to a bad radiator cap, or the wrong type.

I sorta thought maybe it was when they shut down their engines and the coolant was TRYING to pull in from an overflow, but one says it was while his engine was running...

Never seen it! I just wonder if others have, and what causes it. Rad cap would make sense if it's after the car has been shut off, I guess running too if it's a cap for a return system or something....?

Do you have a overflow bottle? If you do make sure it has a vent and it is not clogged.

They aren't my cars, as I said I've never even seen it.
I can ask though...

the only other thing might be electric fans?
The temp gets cold enough the thermostat slams shut and the fan is still going? would act like a car turned off getting too much cooling.

Overflow, agreed.

For collapsing hose try hard aluminum tubing , then use the radiator hose for ends with clamps. Also flex metal hose has been seen. These use rubber collars with clamps at ends. The metal hosing won't collapse.
