Yep I think I ended up with a 1 1/4 long bolt but it was a hair to long.. Its a standard NF thread Russ, and should be available at your local harware store. I simply used a Grade 8 Bolt with some Blue locktite. When you going to have that beast ready?

You have to change to the longer bolt. Mancini Racing carries it.

We have a selection of grade 8 bolts with varying lengths for different dampners and cranks. We install the dampener in each application and measure the depth of the crank bolt hole to the face of the dampner register. We select the bolt and washer combo that will give us a minimum of the bolt diameter in thread engagement or more but careful not to bottom out the bolt or pull the thread from the crank.
Thanks for both Andy's and Bob's explanation on the crank bolt on the ATI dampner. But....I have a crankshaft that was new 41 runs ago. And the reason I don't build my own motors anymore, is because I spend too much on parts to make a mistake and ruin these parts in the middle of the season, and I can't afford to replace them right now. It's not that I am looking to blame someone, but I paid a reputable builder to assemble this engine 41 runs ago. And I have a hard time blaming him when 2 other reputable builders used the same bolt with the same dampner prior to this guy building this engine. For some reason, this time it came loose. I am not sure, now that it has the longer bolt, that it will not rattle loose again because of the chatter marks on the cranshaft and dampner. So, that's why I don't know where to turn to fix this, or if the longer bolt will keep things in tact. You can't blame ATI because it should have been checked. And you can't blame the builder because that's the way it came. It's just frustrating to me every time this type of thing happens.

So.....I just had this very issue and now the end of my crankshaft is a messed up along with my ATI balancer hub. I may need to pull the motor to fix it in the middle of the season. And all ATI says is buy another bolt?
I understand what you are saying but ----- your engine builder should have checked this before just putting it together. That is the reason I asked this question in the first place... I checked it and it didn't look right so I inquired about it and now I have the answer and will get the right bolt. And yes it would have been easier if they would have told me when I ordered it that I needed to use a longer bolt or for a couple $$$ more just add it in with the damper.

But a good experienced builder would have made the correction.

It seems that the engine builder was not paying attention, when I installed my ATI balancer I used a long bolt nut and washer, screwed in the bolt, turned the nut to draw it on,then removed that and inserted the stock bolt, It slid in only to stop with about 1/4" of threads to screw in . That told me right away that I needed a longer bolt. Maybe it was because I stayed at the holiday inn.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead
