If the car overheated at highway speeds, its not the fan, its the radiator or cooling system in general. I used to run my Duster (440) with 3.91 gears, and it had a electric fan on it. At anything above 40 mph I would simply just turn the fan off. It should never run hot at highway speeds

I have seen many cars have heating problems and people want to blame the fan..When its really the radiator. fact not Fiction
A street type 440 at highway speeds doesnt need a fan at all period. A engine that over heats at idle and at stop lights only...yes the fan, but as you get the engine up to speed it should cool right off..If the opposite is true it only over heats during highway speeds, or tends to creep up..then its a circulation problem of some kind. either the radiator is plugged up, not large enough, the water pump is not working correctly (which if they arent weeping water or making a noise they are and the belt is turning it and not slipping etc).
A restriction of some kind, like mentioned a hose sucked together.

I've had great results with the MP repop stock style fan on a warm 496" B engine - with AC on and extended idling it holds 190 F on a 90+ day. I also agree based on experience that overheating on the highway isn't a fan problem - it usually means a plugged or too small radiator or (less likley) another "circulation" problem.
