I put one on my 71 440+6 Charger only to have everyone tell me it was wrong Same with the resonators by the gas tank.
Speaking of the resonators, my 71 440 Six Pack Charger does not have them and looks to have the original tips on the tailpipes too. What's the deal on the resonators and tips?is this also an early VS late production situation?

Here is an illustration that might help. Even though the illustration shows that the 440 applications had tailpipes not resonators we have had customers claim that their original 71 6barrel/pak 440 cars were equipped with them. Like always "never say never with Mopar". Maybe for some extra cash one could get resonators as no modifications are required for installation.
Could it have been 'required noise reduction' like in 1970 for CA sold cars?

From the 70-71 Factory Parts Book. Jan 72 revision.
w/440 Eng. 70 - 3404802 w/440 Eng. 71 - 3466994 & 3466995
It would be nice if someone had an earlier version of the parts book which could confirm what the conclusion is, that earlier up to Jan 71 it was an H pipe with only one part number then to the two part numbers mentioned above.
FSM from March 1971 has the same numbers as above

My 71 440 V code has individual head pipes. They have the flattened areas and clearance dents, and I am 99% certain they are the originals. The build sheet shows left and right part numbers. Very late build date.

(2) 71 GTX's, both original H-pipes still intact. I've sold one already, but still have the other. So yes, 71 440 cars had H-pipes. Maybe some didn't. Would be interesting see some others. There is a 71 GTX 10k mile V-code car thats fairly well known, Autumn Bronze Metallic, and another one, Hemi orange & yellow V-code, done by Roger Gibson (was in Wellborn Collection), that was a concourse cars.
