Except the Pro field uses a .400 pro tree. So you would be cutting .100 lights! Big difference if you have never done it before.
if you read above I said my car would never cut a light on a .400 tree (actually .370 now) just that If you can't cut consistant light in say a purpose built(set up for .370 pro tree) if you can't cut a light you better give it up..... everyone has their off days but if you can't ever string together a good day at least one time a month your wasting your money and you'd be better off test and tuning!!!!
.....you cut a light on a .400 tree with a 7 second 1/8th mile car and your just guessing....
you are waisting your time Eric

I didnt realize we had so many good Pro Stock drivers right here on this website.... Should make it real easy for some of the new teams to find a good experienced Pro Stock driver without having to make too many phone calls! Back to the original point of the post in the first place. Congrats to Allen Johnson for another nice weekend and a great EFFORT. In case you didnt notice, this horrible driver is #2 in points in NHRA Pro Stock.....that beginners class....

Go to the startin line in a different car every pass and see how you fair.
A pro stocker is very seldom the same any pass due to clutch changes and suspension changes..The clutch very very seldom releases the same 2 times in a row..
But i forgot your a 2nd generation racer so im sure you already know all that stuff...And is your car 7 seconds in the 1/8th or quarter...lmfao!!

It seemed rhetorical. Yes, Jeggie has 50 wins.
Better now?

that's total BS remember in the late 90's when Allen was behind in the power dept and winning on holeshot's anyone can cut a light on a pro tree!!!
this ain't the 90's, Alderman was one of the best at one time to. We all get older so will Jeg.
Alderman's retirement had nothing to do with him not being able to cut a light. Back pain, and some other factors is why he made the decision he did.
When he came back the last time I don't remember him being quite the same tree killer as before. He's still my favorite driver of all time. Stayed cool and never made excuses.

1.) First off, Allen might not be as good as he once was, but he's no Warren Johnson or Ron Krisher by any means. When the situation calls for it, his lights are better, maybe not best but better and when he races first round opponents, he usually slows down quite a bit because he knows he has the HP advantage. Its not easy by any means and if you ever heard Comp Eliminator clutch drivers talk about adjusting clutch linkage and other things to slow the car down, then you would know how hard it is to make clutch cars consistent and slow the reaction of the car down. Its just not the same when your adjusting a car for peak power output. As someone said, when you adjusting suspension, clutch, and engine timing every round, the car is not going to have consistent rt's.
2.) Second, the thing that makes great drivers great is practice. Jeggie is the only driver in Pro Stock that races constantly. If he's not in his Pro Stock car, he's usually off bracket racing somewhere and he has tons of seat time in cars that require waiting on the tree, not just simply reacting to a bulb. That helps a driver train himself to have consistent reaction times in terms of how quickly a driver reacts to a stimulus and developing consistent release and consistent staging. Jeggie is probably the most consistent when it comes to releasing his foot from the clutch pedal. Thats something that requires practice and lots of seat time. That's a big reason why he's such a great driver. Some of the Super Stock and Comp racers know its not easy when you have to time things in your head vs. just reacting to the top bulb. You can't just release the pedal as soon as the bulbs pop on in Pro Stock, its not that easy because the cars react too fast. I haven't ever been in one, or driven one, but I do know that and that its not simple.
3.) The best thing Allen could do to help his reaction times is to run one of their old Stratus's in Comp Eliminator in A or B/A. They run the divisionals in their area and he could work on staging consistently and working on his reaction times. Just a thought though

.....you cut a light on a .400 tree with a 7 second 1/8th mile car and your just guessing....
Agreed, Case in point would be in my car over the past weekend I could go red on .400 tree if I rolled shallow deep. -.017, rolled .02 in the box and was .017, .003, .001 on next three passes. This is on a car that will 60' 1.28-1.30 with an approximate rollout of .235 on a shallow stage. My average light on .400 while shallow staging is .032. The biggest difference as stated is the fact you never know where you truly are in beams when staging with clutch and it is very difficult to find ways to slow the launch on these cars that will make them consistent, hence the large variance in reactions. I will tell stripe hog that there is no way you would go better than .050 with a deep stage on .400 tree if your front tire diameter is anything larger than 26" and your car runs in the 7's in 1/8th mile. FWIW the Super Gas class should be run on a .500 tree as a true 9.90 car would have a hard time hitting .400 lights, throw in the Al's out there who are running low to mid 8 second rides in super gas or hot rod and that is what hs neccesitated the .370 and .400 tree and leaves outt hose who have a car that truly runs 9.90's from being competitive on that quick tree. IMO
