1. Which of these 2 iron heads (available new) have a higher performance ceiling???

Stage V or Max Wedge

2. Who is the "man" to port the head to its potential???

I'm not looking for just a big CFM number (I'm stupid enough to do that ). I'm interested in someone who can design a good port that accelerates a car.

Thanks....

Well I'm a SB guy. But I have heard nothing but good things about Dwayne Porter aka Fast68Plymouth. I know several members here who use his services. Also heard positive things about Jeff at Modern Cylinder Heads. JMO

Indy Cylinder Head makes a cast iron version of their 440-1 max wedge head. That should be better than the MP iron heads.

why bother with an iron head??????

Scott Brown can get some killer numbers out of a 440-1

Thanks for the replys guys...

I know about the aluminum stuff and the iron 1s. We had a low 9sec 69' Barracuda on the street in the mid 90s with 1s, N/A. What I don't know about is the iron stock stuff.

I'm thinking these stocker types should get into the low 300s with an quality port that isn't just an oversized hole.

This is a "special" project that requires stock style iron heads. Its a little crazy these days with all the aftermarkets to choose from, but I have my reasons.

Does anyone know which head has the best potential???

If they are both legal replacement heads for stock/ss, I would think the bigger port version will have the most potential, unless you are running a small BB or are RPM restricted. How about calling one of the stock/ss headporters?
These guys will best be able to answer your question, and will also be able to work the most magic on them.

Thanks Greg...

Any idea who the guys to call are??? I've heard good things about Porter... Engine size and rpm are whatever we want (no restrictions).

Haven't dealt with iron stuff since the 80s. Ray Barton does our Stage V Hemi stuff, MBE touched up our Coleman W8s and CFE will be doing our next set of 8s from scratch. These guys don't usually get involved with iron stockers.

I'm looking for a guy that has time in these heads and knows the deal with getting the head and intake manifold straight.

doesnt Muscle Motors offer a CNC'd 906 head???

IF the iron 440-1's would be ok for what you are doing, id use them they can probably go int the 400cfm range if used on a 4.5 bore
