Last weekend at an NHRA divisional race, an announcement was made the morning of eliminations that all class racers who lost in the first round would be allowed to buy-back into the Super Pro or Pro classes. Is this a normal option? Most of the SP and Pro guys were growling about it.
All right, come clean. This sounds like a play on words. Were the first round losers in stock & super stock allowed to pay and additional entry fee to enter Super Pro or Pro BEFORE their first round? This sounds more likely.

Buy backs are used to make up and help pay the purse, and track expence for a low car count feild... Its pretty standard..... We also have before first run of eliminations "dial for a dollar" which is actually $5 who can run closes to there time and has the best light...This would be ran on the last time trial...

Define Divisional - when I hear that, I think a division points race, where Stock, S/S, Super St/Gas/Comp, etc. get contested. I've not been to a real NHRA divisional points race that had classes like Pro or Super Pro, unless it was something like the Bracket Finals (although it's been a while) - are you sure this was a 'Divisional' race? Or was it some sort of 'Record Run' or Divisional Open' and not a Division "points" race?
I have seen it at a IHRA division points race

TMP66: No, they could wait until AFTER they lost to make the decision to buy into the SP/Pro classes. Also, all classes could do this, not just super stock and stock.
Your still not answering the question.
Was their (class racers) first round run, then the first round losers were allowed to pay Super Pro/Pro entry fee and race BEFORE first round of SP/Pro?
If this is the case it's not a buy-back, just paying to enter and race SP/P. Basically it's a consolation race for first round losers of the class cars.

NHRA does it in Division 6.

If it was before SP and Pro made their first rounds then it wasn't a buy back. Simply letting them enter another class. I would simply love it if Div 3 would let SP and Pro run at a Divisional race.

Hate it, when the buy backs are in with the other racers. Should be a seperate class. No if's ands or buts You can't buy a touchdown in football, or a goal in hockey. I drive 1000 km to a nostalgia race every august, and have gone out in the first round. That's how it goes. The drive is not a good reason to butcher a sport, so you can pay to play once you've already lost.

Good luck keeping the sport alive at the local tracks around here without buybacks.
