Local towing company is cleaning up its storage yard...I can buy the following engines cheap if they're worth having.....---> 83 Dodge 1 ton- 360/4bbl engine-has dual snorkle air cleaner -- They also have a 95 Dodge 1 ton van with a 360 Magnum that runs good but shows 186K miles on it...... Anything worth messing with??

the 83 will have a flat tappet cam non roller block with 360 heads

the magnum would still be a good deal even with the high mileage,IMO

I would jump on both if the price is right and take the magnum if it was a choise of the 2

older 360 are still good build platforms

Grab the magnum engine. A great base to start from.

I had 4 vans that were E-58 360 in 1983 they are very tough engines to kill and were a premium price in the police cars I had a volare with a E-58 that I'm currently using in my Sat it is rolling strong with well over 135K on it. Yes I did a discount rebuild with rings and bearing but they really were not needed as the engine was filthy on the outside but like new inside. I guess the every 3K oil changes worked!. But the E-58 in a one ton 15 pass went 16.3 in the qtr witha full interior and stone stock

Get the magnum - stock roller cam.
Then stoke it!

Well I went down to the tow lot and started the 360 magnum engine...WOW-Runs Sweet! Had a little ticking in the top end at first but its been sitting a while. Guy says $100 bucks, I pull it....Should I grab the trans while I'm in there??? I will probably use the engine in an A body. How much HP would it have after a carb conversion and everything else stock? The LA 360/4bbl turns over but I didnt try to start it....As much as I hate to see it get crushed, I think I'm going to pass on it.......I guess you cant save them all...And the crusher will be there Monday......

the trans will most likely be a 46RH, grab it, even if you don't plan on using it...there's a small chance it might be a 727....

other than the carb intake and LA timing cover, the old 300HP crate motor was basically a stock magnum long block. in a manifold vs. header shootout, dulcich made ~300-325HP on westech's dyno with a 300HP crate motor depending on exhaust option (318 manifolds up to 1 3/4" headers)

if you want to wake it up some, get some hughes #1110 springs, 2.2L retainers, and send the cam out to bullet cams to get reground with their HR259/316 lobe on both the intake and exhaust.

for a carb intake, I'd run the eddie magnum air gap.

I appreciate all the good info guys!! Being in a 1 ton, would the trans be a HD version and would it work in a regular pickup?

Also, Friend of mine has a Mopar M1 single plane and a 750DP off of a 360 magnum crate engine he wants to sell....Would that be suitable if I made some the changes that have been suggested?
