Can I get some help to clear up conflicting information on my 74 Charger 8 3/4. Mine is a 440 and around 550 HP with a 727 Cheeta reverse valve body manual shift kevlar bands and a 28 to 3000 stall converter with 29X11 street slicks 265 15s. The mixed info is on my gearing I have 391's some are telling me they are fine and others are saying that I will need 4.11's so the RPM's are high enough at running speed to keep the converter locked up all the way or the tranny will overheat and go up in smoke. This is the first time for a stall for me I have always had 4 speeds.
Thanks
God Bless
Bill

your fine 3000's are pretty tight at 2500 under normal driving and 3000 in your car is about 64 mph and 2500 is 54 mph so what genius told you changing
your rear gear 5% (3.91 + 5% = 4.1055??) was going to be the difference between a fried tranny and not???

I agree, you'll be fine. Whoever's giving you this conflicting info doesn't have a clue about how realitively little difference there is between 3.91's and 4.10's.

Yes you will be fine. We have 3.91's in my boys Dart with a 9.5 Dynamic converter that will flash about 4200 at the track. He has been driving it on the street for years with no problems. Converter technology has come a long way and the stall converters will work on the street in many applications. Ron

I think your gear is fine for your application
