Most brake light problems are in the turn signal switch. Try putting your foot on the brake and rock the turn signal switch and see if they magically come back. Craig

EZ to check.. Jumper the 2 wires on the brake lite switch.. 1. If the lites works, the switch is bad 2. If the lites don't work, check elsewhere Just my $0.01..
