Anyone have a seperate part # from a jobber for the Accelerator Pump for a Carter AVS Carb ??? These usually showed up in Carb Kits/Leather Cup, just looking for seperate part # if any

Or

Edelbrock sells like three seperate Accelerator Pumps/Viton Rubber Cup - I guess without having all three in front of me to match up

Thanx Scott

This is a question I'd like to have answered as well.
Edelbrock shows part #1470 Acc. Pump as fitting a multitude of AVS Thunder series carbs. BUT....as the Op says..can anyone answer whether this pump will fit the 68-71 AVS carbs for the 340/383/440?
Those original leather-cupped basket cases just don't pass the test of time.....they dry out and never seem to work the same again.

One of the Edelbrock numbers works on a early AVS. I have personally used one. Luckily the parts store I dealt with had all of them hanging on the wall and I picked the one that was the closes fit. Sorry I did not save the number.

Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

My local Lordco store says he has a #1470 pump in stock. I think I'll trip on down there tomorrow (before beer!)and grab it and test it out in a stock AVS.
I'll let you all know.

Sounds Good Man !!!

I did a little research at work tonight myself , went to the Napa Website and played

Came up with this part # for the Factory Original Leather One (CRB - 24248) - Now those Carb #s listed are for a 1970 Charger , correspond to the Carter AVS

SUCCESS!!!
The 1470 Edelbrock Acc. pump works! At least it does in a 4640SA off a 69 440. Havent tried anything newer but I beleive the pump well size would be the same anyways.
I was a little worried that the new viton seal pump would bottom out in the pump well too soon because of the shape of the bottom of the pump, but the wells have a deeper recess in the bottom anyways, so it worked out.

Fly at 'er guys!

Because there is a visible outward difference from the OE leather style as compared to the aftermarket Viton style pumps, I use the leather style in my rebuilds unless asked to do otherwise.

However, it should be noted that I have seen a recent problem with the leather pumps (brand new ones) that I can only blame on todays fuel, I believe the addatives and alcohol used in todays blends have a negative affect on the leather giving them a poor seal/weak shot. Accordingly you may or may not have a problem depending on who's gas you run. Replacing problem units with the Viton pumps has always cured any issues 100%.

I took some pictures side by side of the New Leather Part # from Napa and that Edelbrock #1470 Accelerator Pump - Napa had them both in stock

I wasnt concerned about the bottom edge of that #1470 because the Spring underneath would prevent bottoming out however

Did you notice the Stem / S Linkage Hole on the #1470 is about a 1/8"-1/4" longer then the Factory Leather Stem - So with the stem longer it might cause it to bottom out quicker , stay further in the hole/well or you would have to compensate with the linkage adjustment in those three holes

Did you have any issues with Binding and did the Primary Throttle Plates open fully ???

Thanx Scott

Yes....I noticed the difference in length. I installed the plunger with the rod in the top hole of the pump arm.Keeps the pump up farther in the well.
Throttle blades opened all the way.
Like Scott says, if you're looking to keep the carb's O.E. look, then you would'nt want to use the 1470 pump because of the white plastic stem, but for all around servicability I think the Viton one is superior.

You might want to make sure your return spring that fits under the pump is in good shape also.. I fought a hesitation in my AFB until I figured out the spring was not returning the pump up to its full height..

And make sure you install the "S" connector, from the linkage to the pump hole, correctly.. From the front of the carb make sure it looks like an S, not a backwards S... DAHIK....
