At what point are new head bolts needed? Mine are fromm 1966 assuming they are original...

If running a stock engine go ahead with your bolts. If going with aftermarket heads, aluminum heads or raising the compression with iron heads I'd get new bolts.

The point for change is at rebuilding. The bolts have 42 years of metal fatigue with unknown overheat cycles. They MIGHT hold/ torque fine but I would get some ARP,s.

That or some MPs.Last sets I bought for a BB and SB were under 25 bucks.Just cheap insurance.The ARPs for my new aluminum heads were around 70 bucks.Rocky
