What did the factory install on the car, if in fact, it was ordered with the T/A hood?

Good question.
Did the inner fenders get painted similar to the T/A, or did they just put a T/A hood on a car with a normal paint job?

There was a T/A hooded MEMI Challenger in my area several years ago. Supposedly the guys uncle bought it long ago out of a collection in Florida, not knowing what it was or even that they cared at the time. When I saw the car at a cruise and talked to him he said that it was at that time the ONLY build sheet documented HEMI T/A hooded car known. I believe he sold it due to divorce and it went to Julius's for restoration????

I'm the CARETAKER of Weinstats '69 440 'cuda registry and have 104 of the 360 cars to date. 84 fastbacks/20 coupes. Always looking for new(REAL M-code) '69 440 'cudas to add to the registry so drop me a note if any are found or known. This isn't a publicly released registry. Thanks, Dave

great thread! i am doing a '70 'cuda hemi 'vert, with an aar theme, and the air cleaner was a big deal to sort out. on top of that, it is a stage 5 intake.

but, i found a fiberglass solution. it's all fabbed up, it's in paint now. had to do some serious mockup to get it all to work, but it should look fabulous once it's all said and done......

here is a link to my build, and here is a shot of it all mocked up, sans rubber......

oh, also, i used a real ta/aar lid, so i staggered some all thread to make the carb studs match up to the carb bolt pattern on the lid. goofy, but it works! lol.....

Back to the paint question.
Anyone have a survivor factory T/A hooded, non-T/A Challenger, that can say whether the top of the inner fenders was painted black, like a T/A, or if it was just left body color?

So, it's possibly that Blue 71 Hemi Challenger's original factory installed air cleaner was probably the N94 TA Hemi assembly that John D bought! Maybe Downer suspected the same thing and wanted it back with the car.

According to Walt himself that car never was an N96 or N94 car also backed up by the b/c sheet. Plus he proceeded to shaker, louver, wing, wide hood mldg, wheelip option it as soon as he got it.
Knowing Walt, and you knew him like I did Ken, he wouldn't want the air cleaner to re-unite with the car after just loading it up with shaker,etc...it would likely be for a trade deal he had in the works for something he wanted.
Consider that some 19 year old line worker, after cashing his $92.00 check Thursday nite and hitting the suds with the proceeds...coming in fuzzy headed Friday morning, he may have grabbed a wrong air cleaner. Hope that didn't result in a N94 car leaving the line with a steel hood air cleaner.
Or a trade, accidental or intentional on a new car lot... We know a lot of that went on.
Just ask Steve J about the decklid swap on his orange 71 Hemi Challenger sunroof car, by the dealership owner himself when it sat brand new on his lot. One 71 orange Challenger decklid with a wing was swapped on to another 71 orange Challenger without a wing and both cars sold brand new that way.
Now that you mention it Bruce, I do recall hearing Bob's black Hemi Challenger having that wide lipped hemi lid. Another oddity and ever so cool.

Here's the air cleaner again on my black 69 A12 when I had the 65 race Hemi in it. I cannot remember one person admiring that air cleaner for it's rarity over the many years I showed my car!

Thank you. That's good to know. I'd come around to planning on that. You're pretty sure it's the factory job?

Car has one exterior repaint (I can only guess it's "Earl Scheib GREEN" ). One original fender, its jamb & the cowl are original paint.

So does an N94 car with A/C use a standard air cleaner? Or fresh air?

Looks like this was the one the factory had Fram design for a 4 bbl N94 car like Dans.
In fact it may be the very air cleaner pictured that he has now, as I saved the picture from another thread.
Super rare today!!..as it was even back then.

i could now picture how that would clear the a/c unit-i wonder if there was a top plate under the hood to match the round seal? what cutout shape is under a t/a hood?
speechless looking at that...i`ve made it my desktop pic.

roughly 19" in diameter - it in no way will seal to the larger oval hole in a T/A hood, and NO other part numbers are to be found to make it work (it just looks the part)

like the other fresh air hood air cleaners - there is a drain
& like the T/A & AAR air cleaners there are removable plates that can be removed for underhood heat - for proper winter engine operation all while being packed with SNOW!
