It's a good thing my car is torn apart

Not sure if I got the exact center but mine is 50.5 inches

Would that (presumably) be the same length for a 440 as well? Does it matter if behind a 727 or a manual?

Converting a 318/904 to a 440/727 and need a new driveshaft.

I'm not sure if there is a length difference between the 727 and manuals but there is a difference between the 904 and 727 drive shafts.

SB or BB shouldn't matter. I have swapped drive shafts between the 71 (BB car) and Gina's 72 charger (SB car).

Guys, everyone's car is different...Don't assume any length is the correct one for your car...There's just too many variables with suspensions, drivetrain components, etc... Best way to check for your length would be to set car at ride height with a full tank of fuel...Get the front yoke you want to use and push it in until it bottoms out...Then pull it back out 3/4 of an inch...Be sure to have the universal saddles parallel {at the 3 and 9 oclock} positions on the rear and front yoke...Then measure{at what would be the universal cap centerline} what you need for your exact shaft requirement...This is the only way to know what you need for sure...

However, I have used the same DS I measured in both Gina's 72 which is set up at as a street strip car and has a stock leaf rear and my 71 which is lowered and has a 4 link rear.

FWIW, I could probobly use a DS that is a 1/2" shorter

there are 4 different transmissions available in a '71 Charger: 3-spd manual/4-spd manual/904 automatic/727 automatic
there are 4 different rear differentials available in a '71 Charger: 7-1/4" * 8-1/4" * 8-3/4" * 9-3/4"
there are 2 different u-joints available in a '71 Charger: 7260 (2-1/8" inside yoke) & 7290 (2-5/8" inside yoke)
so there are quite a few STOCK combinations available

1971 Charger with 727 & 8-3/4" rear axle & "big" u-joints should be

Hollander interchange lists (no transmission reference):
8-1/4" rear axle - & 8-3/4" rear axle -
***** #2996 101 - 50-11/16" lg. x 3-1/4" dia. (7290 u-joints & 2-5/8" inside yoke)

GG's "white book" shows:
8-3/4" rear axle - w/both transmissions
***** #2996 101 - 50.68" lg. x 3-1/4" dia. (7290 u-joints & 2-5/8" inside yoke)

I believe the one that was in my 4 speed car was 50.75 center to center.
