Last question of the night. What do the nuts look like to attach the rear trim panel on a 68 GTX? The studs do not have any real threads. Do you use a washer and the nuts that cut into the stud? I don't know the name for them. If it doesn't snow again, I'd like to finish the panel. I have the argent paint, new reflective maroon strips and feel pretty confident that I can get the panel is good shape, just need to mount the darn thing. It just doesn't look GTX without it.

is there one on the other side to compare it to...

I call it a Acorn nut... does not use washer..

R/T Specialties carries them..

I'm guessing but it looks like a #10 self threading pal nut

Thanks!!! I was all over RT Specialties but I didn't know what I was looking for. I'll order today and get my rear covered this weekend!

I don't think those are the acorn nuts he is refering to? The GTX may take a self threading open PAL nut with sealer? On my Barracuda, they are small 10-24 self locking open ended acorn type nuts but the studs on my finish panel are threaded. You may want to wait for someone with a GTX to send a picture of their original nuts?

68 GTX's actually have a small foam washer on the panel itself that seal out the weather. The nuts themselves are a 2 peice design. One part is a cupped washer and the nut is an open back design. The reason it was designed this way is because the angles of the studs are not perfectly perpendicular to the trunk lid at all places. If I can find one I will post a picture of it.

Do a search on here for "68 GTX Trunk Panel" from back in January.I made the post.
You'll see pics near the end of the proper nuts and washers.
