Hey Bill here's even more of a mind twister.. It's been written that a lot of top teams re-bodied their favorite chassis from year to year to keep the newest model on the track, lets say you were digging around Burlington or Lenior NC and happened upon a S&M or Missile body in a barn. You take it home slap it on a Cuda race car a drop in a Hemi. What does that make it ??? Clone?? Keep in mind it an original as raced body. recreation???
I figure about 10 - 15% of the populous are purist and would argue the originality of such a modification and deem it unthinkable while the other 85 - 90% of the populous would be thankful to see the car revived regardless of how that was accomplished! Disclaimer: These stats are neither proven nor factual, they are based entirely on personal opinion A good example of this today is Prudhomme's restoration of Goose's ramp truck; there are some who pick it apart for minor inaccuracies, while many are in awe simply to see the Hot Wheel trucks & funny cars brought back to reality.
On a side note, it's awesome having a glimpse back in time to the factory invovlement with the missle cars and realizing how important these cars were then and how important they remain even to this day.

That's exactly what was done with the original Motown Missile Challenger when they converted it from a '70 to a '71. I'm pretty sure they did the same with the first Mopar Missile Duster, which started as a '72. The team didn't have the 'cuda long enough because of the switch from an E-body to an A-body.

I have not been keeping up with the posts on Moparts much lately but this one is very near and dear to my heart. First to answer Bill's question, the Cuda Missile was acid dipped.
From the photos's that were taken back when the car was in Canada, it "appeared" that the car was in rough shape. While that may be true, per my conversations with Oldfield after he went to Paul's to see the car a few months ago, Dickie told me the car was not as bad as he originally thought. There is no doubt that the restoration process will require a massive amount of work but it is certainly restoreable and from all indications it is in good hands for that process to happen.
The restoration will not happen overnight and the folks at Paul's have a ton of work to do but given enough time and money it will happen.

Acid dipping:
Good article here on the Mopar Missle; not sure about the 72 Missle and acid dipping... Let's yield to the historian: Stewart
Mopar Missle
I'm pretty sure it was Acid Dipped... Dick is the best one to comment on this... I'll ask to confirm.
It was taken to Paul's in MS for a couple reasons... 1 the investor has experience with Paul and was satisfied with the results. Paul has a good rep and was interested in doing the restoration...it will take up a lot of his time too.
2...to avoid the costs in Canada... it prob won't be coming back here tho as Customs would have a fit in charging costs...paper wise it made sense.

Joe. Thanks for visiting the board. Always good to see your posts, Stewarts, etc. and afford us the opportunity to interact with the Mopar Pro Stock pioneers.
As for the belts parked sideways, suspect you guys didn't want to scratch that black paint huh!
And thanks to the crew that's restoring the car. It's awesome seeing these cars coming back to life one by one. It's slow, it's ardeous, it's expensive, it's burdensome, but it's well worth the wait

Down under where I live there is very little chance of running into the guys like Joe & Dick so I didn't expect guys that did so much for the sport 40 years ago to be involved in the same thread as us.

Thanks for the clarification on the acid dipping from Dick O. I was wrong in my assumption that it had been dipped. When I helped Fons build his Challenger, it was most definitely dipped (we built it in the winter of 1970-71)so I made an assumption. Well I bow to my old partner on the '72 car. But hey, we are all getting old and that was 39 years ago. Heck, I don't remember what I just had for lunch 30 minutes ago!!!!
