It's time to get working on the Barracuda again, it'll probably see mostly street use with some trips to the track now and then. 4.15 crank 440, .040 over, around 498 inches. 11:1, hydraulic cam, prepped Edelbrocks, Holley 950 HP, I'm guessing it'll be in the 550-570 horsepower range. I'm looking for a pump that will handle the fuel needs of the motor, be dependable, and be quiet as possible. Any suggestions?

MoparDonny top fuel Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,760 Port Alberni, British Columbia	My Dad runs the 160 Gal Edelbrock pump with an external regulator. He has a 496 that's probably 600ish Horsepower. If it's lacking fuel, we haven't seen it yet. Don.

Max Weg member M Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 139 Canada	Aeromotive A1000 works good on my 600 hp 6-pack Roadrunner that sees street and strip. It is one of the few that can be used full time as it is cooled by the fuel. Used it 4 years so far with no problems.

The pump eats brush's like no other.... I actually keep brush kits in the truck at all times. I know a race car wont see as much driving, but just proves the pump wont last for the long haul. I have also polished the commutator ans slip ring to keep it from being so bad.. I now can get 5-6 months before replacing. Also Race Pumps make a piston pump that works very well. I've ran the Mallory 140 for several years...I just switched to the Aeromotive "hot rod" pump (140)...the aeromotive is certainly noiser in a dead head setup. I will be installing a return line soon and we'll see if that quiets it down or not.

New best MPH 130.32 Finally fitted a solid cam, stepped it up a bit more 3690lbs through the mufflers New World block 3780lbs 10.278@130.80 . maximum entropy master M Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 5,080 organ	don't be afraid to try a mechanical pump. i got so sick of electric pumps, i put a carter race mechanical in and never looked back. that was close to ten years ago, and still going strong. my car runs tens, and fuel pressure is rock solid through the entire run. i never could say that about any electric pump i ever ran. for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

jamesc master J Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 5,875 communist bloc of new jersey	don't hold me to this (never used them) but i believe people have had some issues with the clay smith pump. a mechanical would be nice for a street car. i wonder what Dwayne was using on his satellite. afaik he was running a stock fuel system on that and it ran pretty good. just wondering what a HV carter would do with bigger plumbing on both sides of it. losing a few HP is one thing leaning out the engine is another.

My car might not have the hp that you might around 500 and I use the carter 6903.. My car runs high 11s at 115mph 3940lbs stk stroke.. I hate those noisey things.. 1969 A12 R.R. 11.61 117.96 F.A.S.T. My brothers car was in going 10.70s with a high volume carter mechanical pump, we were told it wasnt enough so we got suckered into a noisey Edelbrock electric pump and the car runs the same. I installed a Holley 150 Billet fuel pump on my neighbors pump gas 511 HEMI with 1/2 fuel lines and that thing is very quiet. I would definitely run that pump if I were to buy a new one. I think it could easily flow enough fuel for 700hp. Nice pump also. I mounted it with some large rubber insulation pads and then ran the new XRP cloth braided black hose with AN fittings on both sides of the pump and I think it really keeps the noise down. My wifes car has a Magnafuel 300 and its a nice pump, but its noisey. 5825282-4945566-Biglaunchradialstyle_.jpg (131 downloads) 10.53 @ 125mph. 1.37 60 foot. Caltracs and Monoleafs, AFCO shocks. Heads by INDIO MOTOR MACHINE; IMM. CP Pistons, PC Carbs.

I run a Clay smith mechanical pump in my 72 Challenger and works great so far. The problem is you have to grind on the pump to clear the block. A little metal removal and it fit great! Its rated at much more HP than my 560hp 440 stroker, so I think I should be fine at the strip when I take it there. The pump has 1/2" npt inlet and outlet and requires a regulator. 2 kids and a dog

Any chance of you wanting to hop this combination up in the future with a power adder like NOS? If so buy and install a lot better fuel delivery system than you need for the present combination Way better to overbuy and not need it than it is to have to buy it again in another year or two. I have had issues with a Mallory 140 pump and the proper Mallory two port regulator keeping up with a stock stroke 440 with a set of inexpensive ported iron "346" heads with stock size valves Last edited by Cab_Burge; 02/23/10 09:29 PM. My 140 has served me well, but at least for me, it is no quieter than a Holley blue. Pretty dang noisy. Maybe it is how I have it mounted? 72 RR, Pump gas 440, 452s, 3800 lbs, Corked, ET Radials,. 11.33@117.72. Same car, bone stock 346s, 9.5 comp, baby solid. 12.24@110.

Comp solid roller.

Comp solid roller. solid roller you'll need a bronze tipped pushrod. i've heard of guys putting some brazing on the tip. that's what i'll do when the time comes. i sure love my mechanical pump! for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

But I've looked the pump over and there doesn't seem to be a part number to identify it as to which pump (street/street-strip) it is. Anyone know how to tell?
