I dont have crumple zones on my real shaker hood. Its a 71 cuda SPD March 05, and from my understanding, its suppose to have crumple zones?? The car seems to have all original sheet metal (u can still see the original caulk seams) Does anyone know of or have pictures of any later production date 71 cuda shaker cars that dont have the crumple zones. Just wondering if this could be correct for the car

I found this link on a 71 cuda March build car which doesn't have crumple zones either????

From some other mopar enthusiast that I have talked to: After tax day in 1970 (April 15) e-body (not sure about b-body)cars were suppose to be equiped with crumple zones. Story goes that a driver was decapitated because the hoods didn't crumple under impact, thus crumple zones were mandated. I believe their are two types of Shaker cuda hoods. Crumple zone or non-crumple zone hoods. Their should be 2 crumple zones on bottom side towards the front outer edges of the hood. Challengers I believe have 3 different types of shaker hoods depending on SPD.

Im just wondering if some hoods might have accidently got put on some cars without the crumple zones in 1971

If anyone knows anything about shaker hoods that im not stating or if I am wrong please feel free to correct me!!!

There is no known transition date from non crush zone to crush zone cars. While it's the "norm" to see a 71 car with the crush zone style hood, especially later built examples, I've seen a fair number of 71 cars made throughout the 71 model year that originally had the non crush zone hoods. Since the Shaker Hoods were a fairly rare option I believe that they used whatever they had on hand, whatever was in inventory at the plants the cars were built at went on the cars regardless of the style they "should" have had.

You mean 9 posts since last August doesn't make him a Moparts expert?

There was nothing rude about the way Oz told him he didn't need to post in multiple forums that should have brought about his childish response.

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

I realize that I had posted this question in both forums. I didn't realize, until after I posted the question, that I was in the general and wanted to be in the question and answere forumn as I thought I would get a better response in that one. Im not trying to be a knucklehead . I know I made a mistake and wont let it happen again. Sorry if I offended anyone. Thanks for all the help!

Might I suggest the following:

1. Read more carefully the rules you agreed to when signing up here, especially in regards to decorum.

2. If you make a mistake (like double- or miss-posting), clean up after yourself where possible (like going back to the "wrong" board and using the edit/delete function).

3. If someone points out a mistake, try being polite, instead of lashing out at the one pointing out your error. For example, if the member you lash out at has been around here since before this version of the board was created, has more posts than anyone else on the entire board, and is considered by many other members [myself included] as friend, that would not be a clever introduction.

4. If you find yourself with evidence remaining of something that resembles what is described in #3 above, consider going back and editing the post in question. Perhaps remove ALL the original words and replace them with something like

"Gee, that was uncalled for. I don't know what I was thinking. Sorry, Jeff."

Down to just a blue car now.

Lashing out at anyone is definitely immature, especially on my part. I appologize Jeff, it was uncalled for. For that, I am truley sorry! This is a fantatstic site and one can obtain a plethora of knowledge from people who really understand mopars. Thanks Scott and Steve for the posts. That information is very helpful!
