Well I thought that it was time to finish up the passenger side fender which is the mate to the one in my earlier post. These are from an incredibly rust free 1965 Plymouth Belvedere. The whole car is really nice with the exception of the lower dogleg section of both front fenders. As everyone knows these early "B" cars are notorious for this problem. As the pictures show you just have to really take the time and don't rule out anything that could be a potential rust blister in the future, especially after you have made the effort to apply a fresh coat of paint. The right side fender had some very small pits way up to around the middle of the fender and sure enough my scribe went all the way through! Just small random specs turn into holes so yes, it has to be fixed. Proper fabrication and metal finishing techniques were employed with no fillers and certainly no "fiberglass jelly" used any where. Here we go again.

These fenders didn't look this bad while still attached to the car!

The process is typical stuff used by redi strip. It is an alkaline dip process. The parts are not burnt in an oven before hand either. That is a different process and far worse to use on sheet metal. This stuff here gets the metal extremely clean and yes if there are any thin areas that are suspect it will find them. To me I would rather know about rust thinned spots now instead of hoping for the best. JC.

Hey Tim, I thought you would like to see those. Yes Dan I'll share, after all this is a restoration forum and that's why I post here. Not sure what you want to see but just ask and I'll do my best. Most everything is done with simple hand tools. My Miller Synchrowave 250 is my welder of choice but I can use the oxy-acetylene torch just as well. JC.

I wish I had taken some pictures before I hauled the car up to Quicksilvers shop to be ironed out. Even though the rust that was there didn't turn out to be terrible, you would never have guessed there was that much that needed to be fixed when the fenders still had paint on them. Fortunately, the fenders were, by far, the worst area of rust on the car. Keep up the good work Joe!
