Ok so my dad has been looking at the billet plug and play distributor from petronix for his 383. I told him to just use the points dizzy and put the petronix kit in but he would rather keep the points dizzy off to the side . So how well do these work? any problems with them? Thanks.

if he wants to keep the orignal dist...

use a elet one as a core and just pick up a reman points style one for around 30-40 bucks

then drop a pertronix points conversion in it,I just did that for the 440 truck

all tough the billet dizzy "looks" nice and is new,not sure how it will stack up though

I am waiting on the billet ones from firecore thats gonna be out soon

keep us posted if he does go with it

I have the "plug and play" billet in my 67 440. My old distributor was worn out so I could not install the pertronix upgrade in it.. Easy to adjust and works fine.. It does not have an adjustable vacuum advance though..

I chose the Pertronix billet due to the fact it was one wire hook up ( no boxes on my firewall). I got the black female end cap to look more stockish.. Only problem was having to grind off about 1/8" from my head as the dist base is wider than stock.....

They work great. I have one in the 440 in my Coronet. I checked the advance curve and it matches what Mopar Action recommends.

I have a msd pro billet distributor and msd 6al box. What would be the best setting for the distributor? Right now it is set at 2 heavy silver springs and silver bushing per the instructions. It starts to advance at 1400 and goes to 5500rpm then levels off. What would you suggest. 440ci, 0.040" overbore, 0.474" purple shaft cam, Hedman headers and 3.23 gears. Just street driven. Thanks for your help.

Bob, assuming sufficient octane vs. C.R., you need a curve something close to this:

Under 1400RPM - no advance - set initial at 15 degrees BTDC
2000 - 10 dergees mech (25 total)
2500 - 20 degrees mech (35 total) - all in.

Plus, at LEAST 15 degrees of vacuum advance under light throttle (50 deg. total, 52-55 better).

If it currently doesn't go to full advance until 5500, you're giving up lots of power.

If it currently has less (or no) vacuum advance), you're giving up LOTS of fuel economy and fouling plugs.

Rick

My dad has his eyes on one for 255 thats another reason why i told him to use a stock points dizzy for it and he can buy some other stuff with the money he would save, but he is on his whole shiny deal (must be getting old) Guess they will match his polished MP valve covers and air cleaner

& I sure think he'd be better off getting an Autozone rebuilt points dist & adding the conversion w the igniterII and flamethrower coil and getting some bling somewhere else
