Hi,

Finally headlong into the resto...

Any one got any ideas on how to remove the rear glass without cracking it?

I am too tight to just pay someone, I figure they must use some kind of special knife to cut the gooey rubber??

Front screen was easy..

Any clues would be appreciated

An old trick was to take a piece of stainless or piano wire and work it through the sealer. Then with 2 people one on the outside of the car and the other on the inside pull the wire around the glass to cut the sealer. I still use this method and have never broken a glass. Use a piece of wire long enough to get a good grip because it will be hard to pull, sometimes you have to work it a little. Good Luck

That's the only way I know to do it. If you have a long enough wire you can do it by yourself.

That is how I always have done it too (snare wire actually). My dad bought me a glass removal tool from Princess Auto that is exactly that, but the wire is serrated (looks like a "G" string from a bass guitar) and it has handles which are nice.

I've taken a few out just by using a long bladed knife with a somewhat flexable blade. Hopped inside and used the knife to cut the rope gasket (all the way around the glass) and they popped right out.

I use a utility knife to cut all the sealer out of the windo channel on the outside until th eonly sealer is under the glass. Then, I use a modified 1" putty knife (I make a little hook) to work the sealer ont from between the glass and the pinch weld. I just removed a Challenger rear window and I am currently working on removing a Road Runner rear window. I just take my time an not put pressure on the glass while working.
