Installing a streetfire box on my dart, wanting to run a relay, are any of you useing one with your boxes, if so, how do you have it hooked up? Its a 4 prong, i know one is ground, one is 12v power(batt), then one should be for the (large) 12v red wire from the box currect?, just don't know what the last one would hook up to? If anyone has a pic or diagram that would help. Thanks.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

relay? why would you need to run a relay?

To prevent interuption from any voltage spikes, maybe its not as critical for these boxes as it is for elec. pumps or fans.

You can put a capacitor on there to help with the voltage spikes but a relay will not do anything for you as far as voltage spikes. How would you know when the voltage is spiking? Would you shut the car off as it happens?

Heavy red always directly to battery unswitched source. Heavy red to battery ground, this is the two most important things for longivity.

The MSD has a relay inside. Thats why the smaller red wire can just go to a 'hot on' power source that is also availabe during cranking. Voltage here is not critical as it is only a signal wire to tel the MSD to work (on).

From MSD...

If you experience radio noise after installing the MSD Ignition, you may need to install an MSD Noise Filter. Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) is occasionally generated from the MSD power cables and can be easily eliminated by installing the Noise Filter on the heavy power supply wires coming from the MSD. When the MSD draws current, it will draw through the Noise Filter instead of directly from the battery, so all other accessories that operate off 12 volts, like the radio, fuel pump, or the engine computer, will be unaffected by the MSD. The Noise Filter will also prevent damage to the MSD during jump-starts and will keep a vehicle's 12-volt line clean by removing any voltage and current surges that could interfere with the operation of some MSD accessories such as the Soft Touch Rev Control or the Two Step Module Selector. It is recommended that the Noise Filter be used on installations with the MSD 7 and 8 Series Ignitions to prevent this interference.
