I need to clean up and refurbish my 69 RR underdash wiring harness mainly the connectors, terminal ends, and bulkhead connections. What is good to clean these with? I'm using new underhood wiring harnesses so I'd like to have good clean electrical connections on the bulkhead. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks,
Brent

I think I remember someone saying that there was some spray-on stuff from Radio Shack that would "eat" the corrosion and make the terminals all shiny and bright.

I use a pressure washer, it get's everything really clean. Blow dry afterwards, maybe a little contact cleaner on the ends first.

On the bulkhead connectors, I remove connector from the firewall. I first spray it with Radio Shack tuner and contact cleaner or CRC contact cleaner available at many auto supply houses. Use a toothbrush to get into the crevices and wipe clean. If there is stubborn tarnish, I use Brasso and then rinse with the contact cleaner and wipe clean.
I am a beleiver in using silicon grease in reassembling the harnesses to the bulkhead connector. The foam rubber gaskets shrink and get brittle as they age. The grease fills those voids and keeps the connection moisture resistant and keeps the green cancer from showing up. I started doing this after losing a bulkhead connection on my 72 Satellite stranding me. I have never lost one since.

A good penetrating oil and a stainless or brass brush.

Deoxit spray is very good:

http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.188/.f

the electrical contact cleaner from Radio Shack has not worked as well for me as Deoxit,
but it is faster/better than WD-40
and will not harm some plastics like PBlaster will.
PBlaster does seem to clean off aluminum corrosion especially well.

The traditional cleaner for
'green death' copper corrosion on electrical parts/leaking alkaline batteries
is a thick gooey paste of baking soda,
scrubbed with a soft brush.
It works well but you have to clean and displace the water after you get the green crud all gone.

Modern practice is to then use a thin coat of 'dielectric grease' on the newly cleaned electrical contacts. This is the same as 'spark plug boot grease'

It's a dry heat
A water and backing soda mix or Brasso
I've used both with good results
