there are many company that do oil anaylis, I used to have every other oil change sampled and anaylis on my airplane. Try looking at Aircraft Spruce and Chief Aircraft supplys on line, they sell the kits in individuals and paks of five kits. It use to be around twelve dollars a kit which was the total charges for the mailing, analyings and the report mailed back to you. As already said they can be alarming as well as infomative, I didn't fly my airplane a lot, less than 100 hrs a year so I did the oil changes twice a year and the samples once a year at the annual inspection. I learned to fly the airplane for at least twenty minutes to warm the oil up before taking the oil sample to get rid of any moisture(condesation)in the oil, the oil temps ran 200 F after five minutes of flying so twenty minutes was enough to boil the water out I also cut the oil filter apart at every oil change and looked closely at what was inside

emarine is right, we use them in the diesel industry. They are only good as a comparison tool to be compared to a set baseline when new. Cutting open your oil filters and keeping a record will tell you way more. I have seen some very expensive Cat engines torn apart for nothing, All due to elevated oil sample readings. Most Cat dealers test it for you. At Cummins we quit using it. Just my
Did lots of sampling when I was in the fleet business. You gotta have a base line and lots of reports at specific intervals to make real good use of them. They are great for doing trend and failure analysis. Other wise, you will be overwhelmed with info that doesn't mean anything and can easily lead you in the wrong direction, especially with a race car ( special built motor ), where you might expect high ppm numbers in areas such a silicon, lead, fuel deluton, iron, zinc, etc. Save your money and buy an oil filter cutter.

Oil Analyzers, Inc., is one of the few labs that utilizes the highest level of testing accreditation, the ISO 17025 A2LA. Look around and you won’t find many other labs that have this accreditation. This is because Oil Analyzers, Inc., sources their testing to Polaris Laboratories under Polaris’s Private Label Program. Other companies that utilize Polaris labs Private Label Program includes but is not limited to, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Kendall Motor Oil, Case, and Allison Transmissions. If you sign up for the Preferred Customer Program, you can get one of the best deals going for Oil Analysis through the Oil Analyzers, Inc./Polaris Labs Private Label Program.

Depends on your definition of cheap. The Oil Analyzers, Inc./Polaris Labs Private Label Program is more cost effective; a better value than compared to the other labs listed in this thread.
