Are you a great welder?
I wouldn't weld a cage with a 110 machine. I sure wouldn't weld it, then go over it again with a 220 machine.
Use the 110 to tack it together, then finish it with a 220 machine.
I have a 135 110v machine... I'll bet that machine is rated for 1/4" when using fluxcore wire...not with gas (thats what mine is). I'd just tack it with the 110 then weld it out with your buddies machine.

I use to use a 135 for doing exhaust... that was .062 to .080 thats about all its really good for, no way would I weld a cage with it.... I have no idea why they say it'll weld heavy stuff like a 1/4" which I dont think its that heavy anyways... might be 3/16"(rated)

Agree. No chance you can weld a cage with a 135 welder. I tacked mine with the 135 and went 220 to weld it for real.
11.48 @ 120 with a 1.80 60' 318, stock 1.88 heads, stock 904, Pump Gas, 13 lbs of boost.

I welded my cage with a Daytona Mig 110 machine. Used it on 140 amp settng with a .35 wire and 75/25 mix gas. It welds very well has alot of penetration. I trust my 110 Mig and my skills to have built a solid cage. If you have any hesitations about the quality of your welds or machine then use the 220 that you have access to make sure your tubes fit tight. here is a pic

The 140 machine I used had a fair amount more power than the 135 I used... I thought the 135 was a piece of DO-DO... these were machines I used in the lab where I worked and welded everyday but the welders I own for myself are all 220 units... I am thinking of picking up a 140 for the race car trailer with a small bottle
