Well, I thought since I had this post going I would keep it going. I woke up at 4 A.M, worked all day, drove over the sierras after work, picked up this car and drove back home all late last night. Got home before 2AM and cant wait to unload it and get some better pics.

But here are a few. The car is actually in great shape, last registered in 1978 according to the plates. There is minimal rust in those two locations and along the back pan. Should be an easy fix. The fenders, hood, and all attachable items are in GREAT straight shape, which should save me tons of hours. There are some dents in the roof, but nothing major. Here are a few pics and I will update some more after I get it unloaded. There is a tar like coating that covers the trunk that I am sure is original. I pulled a small portion of that up and the metal looks good, I dont see any rust from the nder side, but I am hoping that is nice as well.

here are some pics here and more at the end of the post.
Dave

Nice grill!! When I was a kid, about 15 (1977), I lived in a small town in Illinois. There was an old guy down the street that rode a horse and buggy to town once a week for groceries. He had a 60's Buick for bad weather but mostly used the horse for motivation. One day while walking past his house he opened the garage door and there sat a pristine 38 Plymouth coupe. I was completely shocked. I had never seen the car before and it was only 1/4 mile from my house. He drove it out and we got to talking. He had bought the car new on his wedding day as a gift to his new bride. That car was beautiful in black with tan interior. I wish I could have gotten a ride in it but never did.

So is its worth doing them! I am dealing with a guy who emails like once a week. I was hoping to hear back today and go get it this week, or thur-fri-sat, which are my days off.

Cross your fingers for me, I dont have a real good feeling about this one until I have it loaded.

I am trying but this guy is proving to be very difficult to deal with. He gave me a price answered 1 question at a time and I mean once a week or maybe every five days and them I decided against it.

I kept sleeping on it and decided I wanted it a week or two later and emailed him three times over a week period. Then he emails back and says, "yes its still for sale bit its $200.00 higher than before.

so now I am waiting for a why is it $200 more but am willing to pay it. I mean did he get a part for it, or just decide to jack it up on me. Either way I want it, but I dont like the week in between answers and I dont think its a scam, just a difficult seller. Hes not exactly on top of his emails and many are and I am sure we are oddballs to the other older generations.

You played into his game, he waits to email you so that you show interest in the car. He offers a price you hesitate...when you come back to him he ups the price to see if you are really interested. He is just playing you because he reads Moparts and sees how many cars/trucks you buy Dave. Just write him a blank check and let him fill out how much you should pay.

My mom is the same way with emails. She's on AOL and has an Apple. Checks every couple days.

The price may be because he found a few more boxes, found the title, or he's just having seller's remorse. Wander over with enough bills, but don't pull them all out at once.

Well for those of you interested in this project, I finally heard from the guy and he is young and not old. He had decided he was not going to sell it after I turned it down as he sold off several other cars for a home purchase.

However he said for the extra $200.00 he would sell it or so the story goes. I am not paying a ton for it so I am willing to pay the $200 and the additional price of a mexican dinner when I come and pick it up.

He refused to take a deposit and said he would save it as I cant get there now until the 27th of this month after work. He is 3 or so hours away and I will head that way after work on wednesday the 28th.

So, that said, we shall see but he sounded like an honest guy and I am obviously out no cash until I pick it up. He is a guy who flips many cars and keeps his cameros and thats fine with me I have no issue with flippers as I am also known to do that to pay for a project.

NOW, THAT SAID------ what should I do with it? 5.7 driver, 6.1 HEMI or old school. OK, I will tell ya up front, its going to be a modern drive train as I want a car I can put A.C in and drive across the country. I have several muscle cars and want a driver for long hauls and this will do. It will hold all my gear, have all teh amenaties and the wife loves the body style.

So, now, what mustang two, air bags or not, I no KNOTHING ABOUT RODS and need some serious advise. So come along for the ride and help me out with advise and keep your fingers crossed for the pick up date.

LAWFISH/ DAVE.

MAN I AM SOO HAPPY I AM HEADING OFF TO THE YARD AND POUR ME ONE OF THESE

Hang in there and hopefully it will work out for you. I have a 36 Dodge streetrod with an EFI 318 and it works great for me. I also have a friend who has a 34 that used to have an EFI 360 that he swapped for a 5.7 hemi. He is really impressed with it. He gets 22-25 mpg cruising and a bunch more power than the 360 had. I would go with the new hemi, but I really like mine the way it is set up, and I'd rather spend the money on another project that I have. GOOD LUCK!!!

I'm along fer the ride. Can't wait to see what ya decide and figure out the outcome.. I want to do the same thing you are, but I prefer the '39 cause of the headlights. I'd find a wrecked truck or Charger or Magnum and buy it if the wheelbases match up. Theres yer drivetrain. Put yer body over it and go from there. I know it's not that easy, but its a start for newer creature comforts..

When you decide to quit, THAT is the moment when you would've succeeded..

I've been up close to 781's and it's really nice. As a matter of fact I saw it and him this weekend at a Mopar event.
