a friend wants to know how long can an engine sit on a shelf after being totally built. of course this motor is probably lubed well before storage.

Some the WW2 military aircraft and marine motors where sold at auction many years after WW2 was over, like twenty + yrs. Same things as jeeps in cartons, 20+yrs and started right up after the proper preparations

Its all in the prep for storage.Tell him to back off or remove the rocker arms. This will help save the valve springs, but mainly keep stuff out of the engine...I would make some block off plates for every opening.
