I dont have a pic of how Pau Ferro grips look like. They are really nice. Its a very dense wood. The oak has a more "original" look to it. But the Pau Ferro is BY FAR a nicer wood. Im posting a pic of a Pau Ferro blank and a Pau Ferro fingerboard on a bass guitar so you can see how the wood looks like.

This is Gunslinger jumping in on this thread. We have been having a lot of calls on real wood grips. Yes, our carver passed away a while back and we are unable to find someone to carve our grips reasonably. After much deliberation, we are investigation CNC wood carving. In a few months, we will carve custom grips ourselves. From investigating the process, you will not see any noticeable difference between CNC and hand carved grips. CNC grips will be machine made, but they will need to be hand finished. The only major difference you will notice will be the price. I am a firm believer in producing a product that will fit the average person’s budget. Yes, things can always be improved on, but how much do you want them improved on? Improvement costs money. We attend a show almost every weekend from April to Sept, so we meet a lot of you in person. If you have had any problems or questions, we are there to help and resolve them. When we actually start the production of the wood grips, we will list it on our new and imporved web site and we will change our add on Moparts. Hang in there for a little, and you will be surprised on the quality.

You should see them in clear coat....WAY nicer than satin finish IMO

Scott, I bet they are better in clear! I would love to see one, but unfortunately, that wasn't listed as an option.

I have to admit as nice as the wood looks (clear coated) I don't care for it in satin. Even though the exotic woods are very beautiful I still think the Oak lends itself to the interiors of our old cars best, it just seems to "fit in" better. It's my personal favorite and I prefer it in the satin finish, it's very durable wood as well. I used to ship the oak down to Domingo in blocks a friend of mine cut (he owned a cabinet shop) as it isn't widely available wood in Peru.

The thing I don't like is a coating. I want to feel real wood in my hand.

And a coating will get ribbed off after a while? While wood will wear the signs of usage with proudness

But domingo offered all 3 types without coating, right? Pau Ferro is not coated but has "hand rubbed oil finish" which would make it difficult to be coated ...

I don't know what coatings he offers now, we used to sell either satin clear or gloss clear, but it seems that an oil rubbed finish would be a simple option to add if you wanted it. FWIW the satin finish has a very realistic smooth "raw wood" feel to it.

During the years of selling them I never had a single comment about either coating wearing off, it's VERY tough stuff. Of course with enough use ANYTHING can wear but it's not likely you'll ever have that problem with it.

I'd like oak with satin finish. These WILL fit your AUTOMATIC pistol grip handles too, right?
