How is the headliner in a 66 abody attached at the front? My uphostery guy says the windshield has to come out because the gasket is old and the headliner is held in place by the gasket? Is this correct?

thx Diego

Not sure on that specific body, but usually there's a serrated edge that grabs the material when the material is folded over it. The windshield gasket in such a case hides the serrated edge, so it would need to be pulled away from the ceiling. It's much easier to have the windshield out for the material to be stretched properly in many cases.

Your upholstery guy is being lazy OR the gasket is fragile. I put the headliner in my old 66 (in 1984) without pulling the windshield. You've got the same problem in the rear, too.

That headliner that I put in is still in the car and still in good shape.

Upholstery shop I took my 69 Notchback to said the same thing - had to remove front and rear glass.
Mine have newer gaskets, so I don't know.
I would have to pay to glass guy more than the upholstery guy. Haven't decided yet.

Like I said it can be done. It is harder, but shops used to do it all the time.

I just did my 65 dart which should be similar if not identical and my windshield/gasket were in but not sealed & it looked way more difficult to do the front of the headliner w the glass/gasket in place so I took it back out & did the headliner the put the wshield/gasket back in & sealed it but if it was in & sealed w the goop I'd get a helper to open the gasket edge as you put the headliner on/over the serrated teeth. A helper or 2 is a must.
