I can't wait for the pictures. full details too, i haven't been on this board too long and I don't even know where to begin, but I have the motor out and the interior apart, might as well lower it at the same time. I'm waiting for someone to figure out how to swap in the newer ram spindles with the sealed bearings where you can run a new wheel with the smaller center hole. That would be trick.
Almost every piece of equipment built has standardized tolerances, sizes, and fits for shafts/shoulders/bearings/seals/etc.
Nobody wants to have to spend $$$ to have bearings developed when they can use "shelf" parts.
Car wheel bearings are no exception.
If you have the P/N's of the bearings and seals you pull out of the hub, that'll tell you EXACTLY what the size of the hub and the spindle are. Best part: roller bearings have #'s that all manufacturers can recognize and interchange w/. So, you can pull an SKF bearing, and take it to a Timken dealer for a replacement.
If you have bare spindles and hubs, then you can still measure the diameters.
I've adapted Dodge hubs onto '48 Ford spindles just by perusing a bearing catalog.
The computer w/ the links I used is gone, but a quick google search turned up some catalogs; here's some places to try:
http://www.timken.com/en-us/products/Pages/Catalogs.aspx
http://www.ntnamerica.com/catalogs.htm
http://www.skf.com/portal/skf/home/products
http://www.zklbearings.com/index.html
If you're anwhere near a large town, there should be a bearing supply house there; if not, I'll bet someone at a tractor or equipment supply place could help you out.
Hope this gets you on the right track.

Ive had several members pm me asking if I could give a rundown of parts needed for the spindle swap by year. Here is what I figured out either by research or by actually doing the swap. 72-93 half ton balljoints are the same. The Dakota spindle will bolt on without modification. Use 87-90 Dakota spindle on the 72-78 Ram. Use 91-96 Dakota spindle on the 79-93 Ram,this will cause fewer headaches with outer tierod ends (ask me how I know). For the 72-83 Rams use either the 1 yr only 84 Ram rotor or the the 76 Newyorker c-body rotors, these both use the same bearings as the 87-96 Dakotas. This will allow you to retain your 5x4.5" bolt pattern. For the 84-93 Rams the stock rotors will bolt to the Dakota spindles. If you use these parts you should still be able to use your stock tierod ends. However you may still need to use the longer c-body adjusting sleeves. Moog es440s was the part # I used but somone said it was no longer available. Just ask for 76 Newyorker sleeves. You may need to grind a little on the outer edge of the lower control arms. Thats really about it. All this info is for half ton trucks. Hope this helps.

First off, I really appreciate the info laid out here! I'm not trying to muddy the waters here but you refered to the 84 rotor as being one year only. After visiting O'Reillys and Autozones websites they show the 82 through 84 rotors as the same(Wagner BD60472). However they show that the inner bearing changed in 84 and continued after that. This might give guys who are sourcing used stuff a little more in the way of options by using the 82-84 rotor as long as they use the newer 84+ inner bearing.
What I meant by one year only is that the 84 rotors have the larger inner wheel bearing and still retained the 5x4.5 bolt pattern.

As far as what i have read, the 2" shackle is about as far as you can go in the rear without dearching the springs, removing a spring or two, or do and axle flip.
If you did an axle flip and a shackle flip at the same time and forgo the lowering shackles (which in this particular case would now raise the rear), i thinck then you get around that 4" mark. Thats how Scratchinfortraction did his.
Outcast Dodge guy.
