I have an 02 2500 4x4 5.9 gas. MSD ignition, coil, plug wires, but I can not find a MSD/Accel Cap. It eats Auto Zone caps and rotors. What do I use and where do I get it?? Mr.Runum

Might try extending the rotor blade w solder (out closer to the underside cap terminals) and making sure the rotor center terminal has a bit of tension up against the center button on the cap w some dielectric grease on top of the center rotor tip and on the 8 underside cap terminals all to minimize the gap/spark which may be eroding your terminals and causing your issues especially with the increased fireppower of an MSD. Any spark anywhere other than at the spark plug gap is strickly wasted energy (like a fireworks show) and it burns the contacts (like ign points) further exacerbating the problem by increasing the required voltage.

What distributor are you running? What do you mean eating the cap? Electrically with build up or grinding?

Electrodes burning away (cap and rotor)plug wires arching. Second set of MSD wires this year and two auto zone, one Napa, best they had caps. MSD AL6, MSD Blaster Coil, stock cap & rotor, KN Cold Air, shorty headers, factory exhaust, Super Chip, auto, 4x4, 4:10 gears. At night it looks a lot like Christmas Mr.Runum

Robert, I first saw this tip in an old Mopar Action magazine. Richard Ehrenberg said the gap was increased during the emissions era, but he left it at that. What I want to know is, does anyone make a quality rotor with the tighter gap that was (apparently) common "back in the day" (exact date unknown).
Count me among those who extends the tip with solder and then checks for interference using an old distributor I have laying around.

How did you integrate the 6al box into the trucks computer. The trucks computer runs everything from spark timing to fan cooling? I think you have conflicting computer modules. Why did you put on the MSD box? I would also install our FireCore50 wires with the better boots. If you like, give me a call. I think we can work this out.. Thanks

The MSD was already on the truck when I bought it, August 06. I added headers and Super Chip. I wondered about that my self, not sure what advantage the MSD would have over stock. I have had it back to the dealer to have the injection timing set. I was told the computer does not care what is on the other side of it, it sends a signal to fire and the MSD does just that.? Truck ran like a scalded dog when I bought it. Not a race truck, just my hunting, fishing, going to work, towing a 30' travel trailer, do everything truck. Re-routed wires last night, changed one out, miss is not as bad. No.1 cyl is down on 25 psi from the rest and header from same cyl runs a little cooler at idel. Will be moving my camper out of the drive way Thurs. Will access to my garage again. Going to do a bleed down to see if maybe have a burnt valve also? Motor does not smoke or make any noises, just misses and give an engine warning of a miss fire.

standard ignition products makes a rotor with a longer tip..
