Ramblebee, are the '85 truck outer tierod ends the same taper as the dakota ones---what does your little moog book say? If so i may be able to get away with just new adjuster sleeves.

Does it have spring specs too? I thought it was said a 90-93 spring was a touch shorter than would be for 89 and earlier.

I know my ball joints are the same as the dakotas so that is a non issue as of right now.

I looked up the outer tie rod end for your 85 D150. It shows you need #ES2121L.How about that ,same as the van ends I used. You wont have to change your outer tie rod ends.Shows 2121L from 79-90.(book stops at 90).That rocks. Sorry no spring specs.

I talked to Eric he seels the bolt on lowering kits here in the forum and I think I am going to buy a set of his lower control arms. I haven't got a response from Chassis Tech yet but I'm gonna try to get a refund for the springs so I can buy a set of factory's to go along with the control arms. Where is a good place to buy factory replacement springs?

Let us know how that goes! I think Chassis Tech / AIM are the guys with the 35% restocking fee.

I just wanted to update, my notes i had of spring heights seem to be compressed heights, a replacement spring seems to be 12.5" free height, and 10.5-11" loaded height.

Both Napa online and Advanced Auto online give spring specs. I also looked at 1973, 1985, 1992 to see if there was any difference over the years, and by aftermarket standards, there isnt. There are heavy and severe duty upgrades on the springs which will raise the front so beware of that also.

Does anyone happen to know what the bolt spacing is for the Ram steering arm? Also anyone remember off the top of there head if the stock Dakota spindles use a bolt on steering arm?

Thanks

I dont know what the stock bolt spacing is on the ram arm.

I can tell you my stock 96 stock dakota spindles have bolt on arms like our D-series rams. Are you thinking you can machine the cast in arm off the dropp spindles and bolt on the ram one? That thought crossed my mind.

Ive got a weird setup I am trying to figure out. I am trying to find a different spindle for my 87 Dakota that uses a wheel bearing setup that have some after market brake options. As it is no one make a on the shelf brake kit for the Dakota's. I have thought about making a custom hub for a set of slip on rotors and I also got thinking about trying to get a B body spindle to see if it would be remotely close to working. Im not too concerned about lowering the tuck at all.

Thanks

They do have a 35% restocking fee. On their website it states if it is a mistake they have made than the fee will be waved, I brought that up to them and they told me it wasn't their fault that the spring didn't work so I guess it was mine . They told me that they would give me a store credit and I told them that they didn't have anything that I wanted so I guess that I am going to chock this off as a loss.

i'll be making a post in a week or so about my own little "expeirment" involving cross breeding spindles to be able to use aftermarket(drag race) brake setups

I think Cheeto did a little research into this. Fatman Fabricators offers a drop spindle for B-bodies. IIRC, it doesn't exactly work on a truck, so he contacted Fatman about making one that would, but the volume wasn't enough to justify.

But that was a while ago - I may not have my facts completely straight.

I had a set of those Fatman Fab ones on my dart. They are based off the F/J/M/ late B body spindles. All it was, was some steel stock to make the backing, a lillte square stock to extend the ball joint hole out some and some round stock reamed to the specified size and depth for the ball joint on the top.

Pretty easy and basic if you ask me. I want to say it was 1/2 steel for the main part. The spindle itself was machined and looked to be a press fit into the backing---it was definatly not a 1-piece deal like the factory or chassis tech dropped dakota spindles are.

Well, I think as soon as I can scrape up some extra $$ I'm going to get a pair of the Dakota spindles. They will be going on my '88 shorty. Not sure how much it will drop it over stock so the rearend lowering will be up in the air. If its low enough I'll flip the axle, but I sure dont want the front higher than the rear.

But if the front is higher than the rear there will never be standing water in your truck.

Chassis Tech/ AIM is a bunch of idiots. Yeah, I mentioned them on my lowering chart...it was all that was available at the time.

Who makes these "bolt-on" lowering kits you guys have mentioned?

Ramblebee, pic looks like your "scrub line" is illegal. Be very wary of getting as blowout or pulled over by a finicky officer.

Fatman Fab said there was not enough demand for Ram spindles. I see their spindles have nearly doubled in price in the last couple years...probably not a lot of demand for the existing ones either. They also said they don't have any MII suspensions that are wide enough for the 73-93 Rams.

Somebody may have the pic of stock spring next to Chisholm spring from my old computer. Should look the same as the pic of the spindles with the measuring stick in between. Wish I had taken better precautions with all those pics.

It's not perfect.

What material are the factory knuckles made of? Could a person safely have one modified like moving the steering arm bolt holes or even moving the spindle itself?

thanks
