do either one of you happen to have a way to measure the clocking(deg.) of the caliper bracket mounting holes? it looks like the ebay dakota spindles (chassis tech) have the mounting holes rotated towards vertical compared to stock '72 up ram spindles which are @ 35 deg. from vertical. i assume chassis tech did this so the caliper would not interfere with the upper control arm. i would like to know this info for a little "expirement" i am working on. any info would be appreicated.

I know the Ram calipers are almost vertical when mounted on the Dakota spindle.Im not sure of the difference between the two but I could try and measure it for you.Now would be a good time to compare. One side is still stock on my truck.I mounted the wheel back on earlier, but Ill take a pic of the caliper position tomarrow.

I think if i remember right when i installed them on my dakota, they moved the caliper more vertical to yes avoid the upper control arm and provide a caliper mounting bracket spot that wasnt so far out of the way---think about it---spindle is 2" higher, if the caliper was in the same angle as stock, you'd have to move it 2" higher also---simply rotate the caliper back into a nice solid part of the spindle assy, and it avoids the upper control arm. I had to bend my brake line off the caliper to clear the upper arm because the obvious change in position made it interfere.

Outcast Dodge guy.

ramblebee, that is the stance i want to achieve on my truck, i want the tire to be at or slightly inside of the wheel opening. yours is there! your tire sizes are what i have planned for mine also so it's friggin' awesome to see pics before i get started! I have a 92 SWB with big bolt pattern wheels. i am trying to get a set of SST / Indy truck 17 X 9s for it. i have four sets of pocketed LCAs and if the dak stuff works, i'll go that route. my 77 has new 2 inch dropped springs so it will maintain stock LCAs. i tried a pocketed LCA and the dropped springs and it wouldn't work. not enough spring to hold the suspension together. Awesome work! awesome truck! more pics!!!

Jeff (cool name by the way!) i could take pics of the dak spindles. not sure how to measure for you. let me know and I'll try in the next day or so. have college classes all evening wednesday though. later, JP (also a Jeff)

Thanks for the compliments.I dont claim to be a expert on any of this but Im glad to help out any way I can.I know what you mean about the springs. With the cut coils I could grab them and move them around with the suspension unloaded. Those days are about to be gone.

cheeto, i know the pics, don't have them though. i need to start saving the pics of the forum. I used to sleep with your "lowering chart" under my pillow! I have it in a safe place now so i can sleep at night.

I've thought about cutting/fabbing/welding a set of 1/2 spindles the way you did. a local machinist is willing to do it. kinda concerned about the shorter steering arms that are cast into the dropped dak spindles. don't want to slam my tires int othe frame rails if you know what i mean. when i put a cop car steering box and repro AAR pitman arm on my 71 barracuda, i had frame rail rubbing, nothing serious but it did rub. don't need a blow out on 150$ plus tires these days! later, JP.

I cut a coil and a half out of mne and I had the coil flop so I drilled a hole in the frame and one in the control arm and bolted a chain on that was long enough to be rite before it would flop. But I did this on a daily driver I got for $200 and had to do balljoints and inner/outer tierods so I said what the heck, Ill lower it but it slammed it. Im going to trim the bumpstop(it rests on the bracket when on its wheels) When its nicer out and if its to low Ill have some new coils awaiting with only ! coil cut to be safe and move from there.

Just did some hacking on my bump stops, took 1"
out, and added 1/2" to the upper stop.

That's not quite it. The pic I'm refering to shows all three spindles. That pic does show the difference in stock and dropped Dak though.
