I have a Dart Sport that I plan to get around to building one of these days. I have a 318 out of my truck that I will likely use to make it a cruiser. The question I have is what tranny to use. I have the 727 that was with the 318 when I pulled it. They were the original engine and tranny in my 1980 truck. I also have a short tail shaft 904. Both transmissions need to be rebuilt. Should I use the short tailshaft 904 or the long tailshaft 727?

I need to know so I can sell the other to clear up some space in my garage. I want to keep the one that is best for the Dart Sport in the future.

Stick with the 727. better stronger trans. Plus you already have the correct flexplate & converter.

If the Dart Sport is an original 904 car, you will have to shorten/rebalance the driveshaft to use it with a 727.

the 904 will be a better match to the smaller 318. the 727 will be worth much more & will put some funds in your pocket

The car was a /6 car. So it had to be a 904. I'm not planning on a huge motor. Just a 318 with a small cam and an intake and headers. No real big power, so I know the 904 will work for my application. I have both transmissions and they both need a rebuild. Is the value of the 727 that much more than the 904 that it is wiser to sell the stronger transmission for my mild cruiser?

Keep in mind that I have to finish my wife's car, and re-restore my 57 Plymouth before I think about this Dart Sport. I'm just going to drop them into the car to get them out of my way for the next decade or so...
