This is probably some real basic thing that I just don't know. But what is the advantage/disadvantage to using pistons that take compression rings that are 5/64 versus 1/16.

the 1/16 cause less drag.

The 5/64 is pretty much the standard OEM style ring and would probably have an edge in long term durability (100k miles)over the 1/16. For most of us, it does not matter.

for a performance app if the piston you want is available w 1/16 grooves you will have far less drag & more performance.
