Adding the extra gap to ring at first, if your plan is to hit it with a 200-300 shot later..Does this normally hurt performance of cause any problems running N/A?
Thanks Happy Thanksgiving Bob

ime it won't hurt a thing unless you go huge.

I build all my engines, I will open the ring gap up for sure. Compression will be on the tad high side IMO., around 13.5:1. Good head gaskets.
So Nornally what ring gap for a N/A engine? .0045-.005 x bore diameter? So .0045 x 4.5 = .020-.022 should be safe.
What for NOS .0065-.007? looks like .007 X 4.5 is .031...Wow thats a bunch of gap IMO. What if I gap the top ring .026-.027 then the 2nd ring a few more thou like .028-.029 and watch my tune.think I will have any problems? I will have a dedicated fuel system, its own line, fuel pump and regulator etc.

i almost always follow the ring manufacturer's recommendations, but to be safe, it's better to go a little big on gap. i've torn down some engines that have HUGE gap and run great. i'm talking well over .007 per inch. it seems to me that the engine would want to be completely warmed up! maybe the "heavys" will chime in on this? all i know is, if the ends butt, you're screwed.
