I recently had a 534 chrome ign. box (ECU) quit on me. I put an O'Reilly box on it to get home (I always carry a spare).
I can't afford to go MSD right now, so anyone know of a place to get a good deal on these boxes?
What abou the FBO boxes? Will they interchange?

You won't pick up anything changing over to MSD..however you can get the chrome box at any of the mail order places and Mancini Racing.

You will pick up some reliability. My car used to use orange and chrome boxes like gasoline. Oriellys boxes never gave me any trouble.

I've got orange, chrome and gold boxes that are over 25 years old that still work great.

25 years ago alot of things were made better. I wondered if something was wrong with my car but the orielly box lasted a long time, even ran fine with nitrous. I am sure the box is still fine but I won't be useing it this time around.

I had orange boxes 25 years ago too, they never failed.
It seems to ME that the past 10 years have brought boxes sourced from a different supplier, because I've had a half dozen orange boxes fail now.
I've never had a chrome box fail on one of my vehicles though....

Forgot the FBO box? And why would he do that? Did you ever tried it (A688) and/or do you know facts and tests of A688 VS those china chrome and standard boxes?
I have sold lots of those A688 kits and use it with both of my cars...I and my clients have zero problems with them and spark is so bright and strong that you may weld with it

The last two chrome boxes I bought failed with very few miles. My spare from advance has been going for years

What are the facts and tests results exactly ? lets say over a system like i have on my 68 RR its a Mopar performance chrome ecu, with a msd .8 ohm HD ballast, and a blaster II coil.

I'm wondering how many chrome box failures might be attributed to a mis-match with the resistor?
Opinions seem to be mixed on the FBO boxes. Can you purchase just the box & replace the chrome ECU with it. I guess a call to them would get an answer, by I would rather be armed with info from this site before shopping.
Good info on the O'Reilly box, btw. I was afraid it wouldn't put out the energy of the chrome box.
Thanks.

I just bought one for my Jensen. I've never tried one before, but I trust Don.... I'll see what I think this spring....

Buy a Standard Motor Products LX101 box (not an LX101T). Excellent box, good to 8500 rpm. I'd bet $100 this is what a MP chrome box is.

There are a lot of features with aftermarket ignitions that the Chrysler stuff does not have. I can't believe I'm reading this in the race section. I didn't know there were any serious racers still using that old stuff.

Start retards, rev limiters, 2 step limiters, timing curves, higher output, better performance in many cases...should I go on?

My car starts fine.

I don't need a rev limiter.

2 step..why?? Bring it up and let it fly.Just more electronic gizmos that take away fom the driver/car deal IMO.

Timing curve..no problem with what I use.It works so why change it??

Higher output?? Better performance?? Against a gold box?? I'll claim I'm from Missouri.

I understand your points, but don't see the advantage.

I just bought the FBO setup for my Jensen, I wouldn't have even considered a blue streak box, but that's just me....

I would like to hear why not an FBO box too...
