I'm looking for some flat top pistons for my 413 I'm putting together. Does anyone know where some can be found? If not, I'd be okay with boring it to a 426 if someone knows where to get 426 flat tops.

Thanks

Andrew

You can check Hughes, they sell EGGE pistons. They are CAST ROCKS! maybe 9:1 compression and $$$ I Think Ross has some customs that will work at 9.5:1 or so but even MORE $$$... FWIW... part out the 413 and build a 440 block with the parts! That's what I'm doing. Salvage the crank, caps, rods, ECT... put them in a 440 NET GAIN: more cubic inches, cheaper pistons... the machine work cost the same for either why waste your time? If you're hung up on a 413 for a specific build? Slap some decals on it that say "413" who will know

Most likely need to get semi-custom pistons made for it. Not a big deal, just use a 383 piston with the pin moved. Diamond Pistons can help you out.

Years ago I mailed KB-silvolite if they had any plans on producing pistons for the forgotten 413ci bigblock, and the said not likely.

I would think with 440's getting a little harder to find in certain areas and the all the 413's out there there would be quite a nice market for a useful but normally priced piston?

I asked several places too.. as Andy said, if they make a 383, just move the pin! But all things considered the 4.25 bore still shrouds the valves

Sooooo.... with a 440 block, and forged pistons now in hand...

VERY true ... the 440 does not have that issue .. but look at the 413 and 426 Max Wedge ....

It used a larger intake and exhaust valve than most 440's used .... and even larger than what the aftermarket offers.

Not a thing wrong with the 413/426... just from a pure economic standpoint, it's just not practical to build it for me, and it seems others have tried it too. I picked up Ross 9.7:1 pistons on sale at Jegs for $450 delivered for the 440... Hughes wants $520 plus freight for the low comp/cast 426's. I got a deal on the bare 440 block...My decision was easy The 413 gets bolted to a cart and moved under the bench. Still wonder if the 413+.070 with a 4.15" arm, and custom 383 pistons is practical as a 472" stroker Someday maybe I'll try it

Same intake (2.08) but larger exhaust (1.88); the block was notched for exhaust flow.
