After recent floods in Ga and the small block being under water I dried her out cleaned her up and shes back on the road. Thought I would upgrade the ignition since I had to replace the distributor. Went with the Pertronix Ignitor and the 40,000 volt coil. What to do with the ballast resistor? One set of instructions say yes another say no. That is the question. I also dried out the trans and had it flushed three times, seems to be shifting OK.
Thanks!

The pertronix ignition needs full 12v to operate properly.
I don't run my pertronix anymore, but I did for quite a while and never had a problem. I hooked mine up from the full 12v side of the resistor. Coil from the down side.

If you are going to run a resistor, wire the pertronix through it like the instructions say. I've been running mine like that for a year with no issues.

Did that on all points conversions I did in the past.
My NYer has been running with no problems with the Pertronix since summer of 2000.

As a matter of fact,CBarge is the one that suggested I run it that way and it works well. Thanks CBarge

If your using the petronix coil you can eliminate the ballast resistor. because the coil is internally resisted.

Is it possible to run the petronix coil without the ballast resistor on an crome ECU box?
