The car looks great, and really a think a few good hand washes will bring what very little dirt there is off. The car shines, and has the deep look I want already..Also the car has some very light orange peel. The guy can flat lay down some paint.
Can wet sanding and buffing actually hurt the shine some? Im sure it can if not done properly. But IMO getting the car to shine like this after wet sanding and buffing...well its not going to be easy..
Is there anything I can do that will help this out?
Also 2-3 years from now I know the car can have this done t have the new look again..I know you cant wet sand and buff the same car/paint very many times.
Should I have it wet sanded and buffed?
What does it cost in your area for a pro job?
The car has 4 coats of Dupont Clear BTW.
I always thought no matter what it looks like after paint, a car thats wet sanded and buff'd will have a much better deeper rich shine..is this always true?
Thanks
Bob

You should only have to sand it once, but you can polish and wax it whenever it needs it.

Obviously if you have never done it before then sanding and buffing the paint might be best left to the guy who painted it for you. It's not super hard, but if you mess up you have to pay him to fix it. If he messes up he gets to fix it.

My last car was never sanded and buffed. The finish was smooth enough and looked so good out on the sunlight that I just left it alone.

i just painted the hood on my car and had the same dilema. i chose to sand with 2000 grit and buff anyway. it looks different but better now. i feel that some cars need a little orange peel to look right. to me some cars don't look right when they are over sanded and buffed.

After buffing. If someone who knows what they are doing does the work, a paint job always looks better after wet sanding and buffing. It should be done within a week after it is painted before the paint get's rock hard.

Wanted to say that Jeremy Goodspeed is a great guy who spends WAY too much of his time helping dummys like me... Anyone needing some great polishes and washing material should contact him.. My 2 cents...

Bob, a properly wet sanded and buffed car will allways look better, it makes the paint flatter, increases the reflection, and depth of the paint,....if you have 4 coats of Dupount CC, that's plently for a sand/buff,.....if you've never color sanded/buffed a car, leave it to a professional, preferably the guy that painted it, as he knows how much paint is on it,.....as far as cost, out this way a cut/buff, nicely done will run about $600-$1000 depending on the color, size of the vehicle, any problem areas in the paint, etc,

This is after sanding with 1000 grit, then 1500,2000,2500,....I sand the entire car with a 3"X5"X1/4" hard rubber pad, and a wooden paint stick(a paint stirring stick,...I'm old school ) then buff it out with a foam pad, the car still needed to be finished with a polishing compound, or finessed out, I generally prefer the 3M line of compounds and Finesse-It polishes

When you look around for someone to do the work, ask them how it will be done. If they are using the new 3M Air Wet Sanding system it will save you labor time drastically. I sanded my bee with it and on the areas that i only went to 1800(less important areas) it looks much better. If you have the chance to look at it before during and after you can really see it come to life. The buffing system i used is a 3 stage system. Once you use the first of the 3 it looks so much better. Needless to say its like glass when its done with all three buffs and sanded out nice and flat.

We usually use a D/a with a thick foam backing pad and 1500 dry followed by 3000 grit wet and all most shines before buffing.

The problem with doing it this way it the foam backing will cause small waves in the finish. It will still have great shine and remove the orange peel but its not going to be dead flat using this method.

If you want flat, use a hard sanding block and/or paint sticks.
