Just bought a 340 block from another Moparts member....got tired of passing by the empty engine stand staring at me every morning as I head to work. (hope some of you can relate). Anyway....I'm real happy with the 341" 318 but with a new set of slugs I could move the 6" alumimum rods and 3.55 crank right in there with a 260-ish Solid flat tap and make a reliable 500-520HP 7200rpm 375 incher....or I can do like everybody and their brother is doing these days and buy a 4" stroker kit and make about the same power with about 50 lb/ft more grunt and a bit less RPM. The cool thing about the 375 is I can make an off the rack 340 slug work with my combo by knocking about .014 off the top of the slugs, and if I did the math right I can get the slug to weigh the same as my old 318's and not even have to rebalance new slugs and rings and I'm swapped in and out and in an afternoon I have 34 more cubes, another point of cr and at least 50 more horses. I just want to do another small block, I guess I'm about B/RB'ed out for a while, my next big block will be the 'funny' kind with the spark plugs through the valve covers. The 4" stroke would be great and an easy build but I really miss the old school high winding small blocks of my youth....what to do? I also thought about selling the 341 short block outright (already have a friend whose real interested) and maybe trying to find a 3.79" stroke and kind of split the difference. I know people are saying just keep the 341, why change anything and I know....it's just that pulling the motor in the Rocky is actually easier than changing the plugs on my old RB motored Duster.

I think if he wanted to turn 10,000 with a stock block it would need a pretty short stroke, not longer. Probably be best off with a 48 degree block and W8s if he wanted to do that reliably.

I would love to build one of these things..Large Bore small stroke with some good flowing heads. I would love to jump on that set of W2 heads that Vic has/had for sale a month or so ago. This would be killer in a Duster/Demon on the street with a 4 speed. Heck ya wind that baby up and side step the clutch.

OK heres a recipe for you. build a 4.250 bore siamese bore 48 degree block with a 2.98 or 3 inch stroke (whatever the actual old T/As used) and stick a set of W9s paint i all oarnge and put a set of stock valve covers on it, spin the bejeebuz out of it, you might need some 4.56s and a low 1st in your 904 with about a 7000 stall converter I got a set of crower rods that'll work in there I'll sell you, that ought to get the rocky moving

I like your idea of putting together everything you have on hand, let the rpm fall where it may for power. Maybe if the need arises, spend the saved cash coming from using what you have on a rollercam!

That school opened my eyes towards engines of all makes. I still prefer the mopars but seeing what can be done with an LS motor makes me a believer lol! I'd also like to see a max effort modern "hemi" engine. I know 370 cfm out of the 6.1 heads isn't unheard of and that's a factory casting.
I will be going the 6.1 Hemi route next summer if my efi 360 sells. I was going to do a 416, and after racing a '65 Dart with one in it the last half of the season, I want something with more potential than mid to low 11's and the new Hemi's seem to have it. The 416's are nice, but costly for the hp you get. I have already seen a mild N/A 6.4 Hemi running 8's and I know of a blown one making 900hp with no issues. I also know World Products is making an aluminum block for them due to come out early next year if all goes well. The high horse power potential is definitly there.

I figure a power peak of 7200 and a redline of 7800 would be 'High enough' to bring back memories of the old Original w2 4 speed days of the late 70's/Early 80's when my little 340 4 speed was tearing up BBC AZZ left and right. Getting up closer to and over 8000 reliably also takes a lot more toll on the valvetrain....and based on the sonic check #'s the block at a 4.100 bore at best is only good for about 550 so there's no point going over the top. I did all my racing in cars and on bikes back in my 20's, now in my 40's I just want to go have fun on occassion, I got too many other irons in the fire to take it too seriously anymore I hit a point where fast enough is fast enough, and high enough (rpm) is high enough to get done what I want to do. the extra torque of the big motor would make me want to drop the gear down from 4.56's, don't really need a lot more torque with an 85" wheelbase I don't think. Greg, I hear you on the roller and that would be sweet but our buddy Goldmember practically gave me something very close to my favorite old Ultradyne Solid, so.... I could really slip that same cam in the 341 and spin her up another 800-1000 but like I said I always had a sweet spot for those big bore 340 blocks. Now if a set of ready to go w5's fell in my lap....

I have been hunting for a deal on a 3.75-3.79 crank also. Haven't run across anything. A memeber here is supposed to be having access to some soon and I'll let you know when I get any more info.

Sell what you have and buy one of the super cheap R5P7 deals laying around. They dont make a ton of torque so you can make them stick in just about anything, and if revving gets your panties all damp..that would be the ideal thing to have for rpm's And, you will go ultra fast also

364...that does sound sweet....now I just need $3400.00 to fall in my lap first Seriously though another 35 cubes and 50-60 hp is mine for little more than the cost of a set of pistons and rings....tough to beat the logic of it Also I think the M1 and the 830 Annular I already have are a touch too big for the 10:1 341, it would fit a little more better with 11:1 and 375 inches. If I got good stuff on the shelf, I'm always going to try to reuse what I have laying around whenever I can.
