How critical is first/reverse band adjustment on a 727 when using a manual valve body, bolt in sprag, and no transbrake?? Was told the band was only used as a backup/safety when running bolt in sprag. What would happen if band was too loose? Car runs low 10's on motor.

PSO headed 632 from MM. Cracked cylinder, loose valve seats, low oil pressure, low cylinder pressure.
..... Now its a door stop....

probably nothing , but if band gets too loose there is a chance of breaking the anchor or lever ear off when going to reverse. Then you will have no reverse.

The band should be adjusted properly , is your VB low band apply or not ? if it doesn't have low band apply then the band only works in reverse and it should be adjusted properly anyway .

A BOLT IN SPRAG is not as great as many think they are if it's just the stock replacement. The bolts only stop the race from potentially spinning in the case. The rollers , springs and spring cage giving way is what causes the explosions and the bolts do absolutely nothing to stop that .
