I'm gonna be painting my car this winter, and it needs a windshield, so I'm thinking of going lexan. First question is, who makes the best windshield? Second question is, can the factory gasket/trim be used with a lexan windshield?

Adam,
Good questions, i'm going to put a lexan windshield in my valiant this winter.... Anyone know of a company that makes lexan windshields for valiants? I'm thinking it's the same windshield as a duster..
As far as mounting, i have 2 buddies who mounted their lexan windshields in the stock rubber for the glass, and added a bar in the middle to prevent it from bowing in.
I was surprised that the didn't screw the lexan in also, but they're running 9.10's and 8.40's without screws. I guess that's how i'm mounting mine!

Not worth the hassle. Had cars with margard and changed to glass after a trip or two to track.
Nice wheels

Nothing like real glass especialy at night and in the bright sun. Think hard before you change up.

I have used 1/8" lexan for years on 1/8 and 1/4 mile. Pop rivited in & a single brace in the center, no problems. Shimed it out with scrap pieces of lexan, and clear sylicone sealed. Also painted a black border from the inside. You can cut it with a fine tooth blade in a jigsaw. Just take your time cutting it.

Also take a propane torch to finish the
cut edges... just slowly pass it along the edge to
re-melt it ... I usually draw file the edge first
then hit it with a torch for a professional look.
3/16" is plenty for it but you would need to shim
it too make up for the original windshield thickness
PS... try it on a scrap piece first to get the idea.
Also dont waste your money on the scratch resistant
stuff it will scratch just as easy

Thanks for the compliments on the rims guys

And thanks for all the info on lexan Definitely some things to consider. I forgot to mention the car is street driven, so it would see more use/abuse than a track only car. It's 34* here right now and I'm heading to the track soon

If I remember right the MR-10 is the standard Lexan
which is what you want.... been a few years since I
bought any... I use to buy alot when I was working
for different jobs at work
EDIT
I think the MR stands for Mar Resistance... could
be wrong.... you want the standard Lexan

If you tow the car on a open trailer, you will find that the bugs will really like the lexan.Plus the rain that always finds away to get in.After several $$ lexan windshields I went back to the glass.

I like my 1/8 inch Lexan. I use the stock rubber gasket but I use a rubber u channel from McMaster Carr that brings the thickness back to the factory 1/4 inch. Works very well for me but I also do use a center support.

I use 1/8" also, without a center support, yes it does
bow in at speed but I really dont care, it goes back
to normal when I slow down...mine bows in about 1"...
It all depends on size of the windshield and how
much arch there is in it to how much it will move

Street driven? What are you going to do about wind shield wipers? I would keep the glass, why pay for something that you'll be kicking yourself in the butt for when you can not see out of it in a month. You can't just take a rag and wipe lexan off with out doing damage, before you know it all you'll see is swearils,

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Bob,do you heat bend yours for early B-Bodys? If so how do you do it? If not how do you bend the lower corners into the rubber channel. I'm actually thinkinking of using 1/8". It seems to bend pretty easy.
