Ok, spotted some Evaporust on the shelf at Harbor Freight; vaguely remember some posts on the stuff. Anyone use the stuff? Any processes that work well. Did search with no success.

I use it all the time on the suspension and brake components that i rebuild, then sell on e Bay, or Moparts or Bigblockdart.com.
But i buy the concentrated solution that you mix in their 5 gallon bucket, when you buy online.
I leave the parts in it overnight, and they come out great.
It stops working when it doesn't derust anymore, and when it turns pretty black.
I give it a thumbs up.

hemi71x,

have you ever placed a master cylinder in the solution?
I have a MC I want to try out but would love to hear if someone has done it prior.

It works great. I bought a gallon of it at Harbor Freight for $20. Mine is turning black and isn't working very good anymore. It's about time to buy another gallon.

Normal surface rust is no problem for it. A lot of the heavy caked on rust and scale takes a lot longer.

I didn't put a master cyinder in it but I did dip my prop valve in it. It came out looking great. It doesn't do anything to the rubber seals. It only attacks rust.

Lots of Bendix, Budd, Kelsey Hayes, disc brake calipers, but haven't soaked out a master cylinder yet.
Shouldn't be any problem at all, once the master cylinder is disassembled anyway.

Thanks for the replies; does it give off any fumes? I did a carb in some Berryman's Chem-dip and the whole garage stunk the rest of the winter.

The liquid has a smell to it but I wouldn't say it gives of fumes. Nothing that is going to make you where a mask or anything. I saved old plastic containers (like butter or sourcream containers) and have small parts in those with the lids on. Basically so the Evapo-Rust didn't Evapo-rate.

It's an odor free solution, nothing at all like carburetor dip.
Evaporust is an enviornment friendly solution when you read up on the product.
But it's supposed to work at it's best at a room temperature.
I'm in California, so i never used Evaporust in a cold climate to judge it's effectiveness in a wintertime garage.

I use it allot, works great on everything I've ever tried it on.

*What I like most about it are:

1. No obnoxious odors (smells pleasant and not very strong)
2. Disolves rust and does not affect the good metal AT ALL
3. Works fairly quickly, overnight removes most rust when it's fresh
4. Eliminates the need to bead blast lightly rusted parts leaving the natural OEM texture on the metal

*It's downside:

1. It works slow and basically only if the part is constantly covered/soaking in it
2. It has a limited capacity, I.E. once it's removed X amount of rust it's no longer effective
3. It's expensive considering it's useful life
4. It doesn't work very well at all on dirty parts with grease or oil contamination so pre-cleaning can add to the work involved

Conclusion? I keep some around and use it, but it's not the "end all" to rust removal, it has it's limits.
