Whats the easiest way to tell a 727 from a 904 when the trans is still in the car??
And would a 71 318 b body automatically have a 727?

Look at the pan rail where the dipstick tube goes in. 904 has a regular, curved 90 degree corner. 727 has a bump out.

If your eyeballing it from the top, on a 904 where the 45 degree sloped bellhousing section meets the horizontle main body there is a raised bump all around the circumference at that junction that you can see (or feel) whereas on a 727 this transition is smooth.

Wasn't there something about the inspection cover bolts, or was that for big and smallblock?

uhm?? I knew the cover space thing for sb to BB but never thought about 727 to 904??
