This looks to me like a simple hub issue, but is it?. The PN for the damper is 917122E, and 916661 L for the hub. I'm assuming the "L" is a long hub version, and I just need to get the 916661. You can see by the pics there was no way the damper was going to work without hitting the oil pan, and I still had another .310" to go before the hub would sit flush with the end of the crank.

Comments, suggestions, advice?

The bolts under the damper on the left are just about the diameter (.310") that is needed to have both dampers flush with the crank end.

I planned to call them first thing, but figured someone else ran into this problem already. They don't list a lot of choices for a Mopar. There has to be a combo of parts for this application.

actually they do have a pretty good listing for Mopars. is there something unusual about what your building?

I call them first before buying any of there dampeners on any motor, they have way to many choices for me to guess and get it right the first time. There tech department is outstanding, make sure and give them all the details they ask for before ordering this one and the next ones, ask them about pulleys if your going to run one also

Yeah, it actually runs this time and makes good power...

Nothing unusual just a 383/451. The damper on the left is cheap piece and the outer ring is getting loose. I was planning on squeezing another 40 HP out of the combo and thought it would be prudent to invest in a quality damper.

I know Andy sells a spacer through Mancini, but i don't know if it's applicable to this case. I am going to run pulleys, but I wasn't too concerned with the alignment as I can buy the WP spacers and fab the alternator spacers.

I thought I was going to be crapping in high cotton when the hub came out of the box at .0011," -- right at the outside tolerance limit.

ATI makes and sells the spacer for their dampeners, Summit sells them

I don't mind paying for a new hub if necessary; ignorance should be costly. A different damper is another story. ATI and Summit are pretty strict on their return policy for these dampers. It doesn't help that mine showed up with oil and fingerprints already on the parts.

Thanks, Cab

It's hard to tell from the picture how much distance you have left before the damper hits the oilpan, but it's not the front of the hub that should line up with the end of the crank, it's the rear that should hit the crank sprocket+oilslinger. Make sure that the oilslinger is in the right position.

917470E is probably the damper that you need. It has shell #7040EP, and hub #6661. I doubt that the 6661 hub will help, as the shell that you have is thicker.

Let us know what ATI says.

Summit has a strict return policy ON PAPER , but they don't seem to adhere to it . I bought a set of main bearings , they were LOOSE IN THE BOX , right on the box it says not returnable if shinrk wrap is broken , shrink wrap ? There was no shrink wrap on these . They did send me another set and took these back , I wonder who got them next

917122E should fit fine with a stock timing chain cover. I use that damper all the time on stock type motors. That damper fits my billet timing chain cover but it won't fit the Indy cover or the Jesel belt drive.

That's interesting, but based on the picture you took, the balancer hub should bottom just before the balancer hits the oil pan. Unless I'm just not seeing things right. Interesting story on my ATI for my small block, the hub's too long. I had to build a custom pulley for it to line up the belts. Then I found out I can cut the hub down if I need to, up to .650" if I remember correctly.

What hub number, Andy? The hub I have is clearly toooo long.

Are you sure this will work with a 3/8 fuel line?

I was thinking the same thing. The mounting flange/register has to be in the same location on both hubs (6661, and 6661L) in order for the damper and pulley to center themselves on the hub. In my mind the 6661 hub should measure out at 1.825" vs the 2.135" of the 6661L; Combined with a thinner shell that should take care of the problem.

I read the ATI chart and did see the footnote about not being for stock pulley location. But it wasn't specific in saying the added thickness of the shell was toward the engine side vs the radiator side (if it's even possible). If the added thickness was toward the radiator side I could've shimmed the WP pulley and corrected the alternator spacers.

Did the hub go all the way on, and bottom out?
I know on mine the outer shell is really close to the oil pan / timming chain cover.
I guess you could always put another oil slinger between the timming chain gear and the damper hub?
