They arn't much fun. It look a lot of work getting them out on my 73 Challenger. I have heard that you can weld a thick washer onto the outer bushing sleeve. That will give you something to "press" against. That didn't work for me. I had to use an air chisel and muscle them out.

Hey there Reed, . Welcome to the lower control arm blues! Man those things are in there. Some you would almost swear that they are permanent. So far the best method I have found is to have the lower control arms sent out to the metal cleaners, redi strip ,etc. Usually once they come back the bushing itself is gone then all I do is take a very small chisel and get the outer edge of the old sleeve to start caving in on itself. After you do get it started I then take a carbide bit and make a small incision in the side of the sleeve and simply chisel it out of the bushing bore. If you don't have access to the metal cleaners you must knock out the rubber bushing first and then work on the left over steel sleeve. Either way it is a fair amount of work. Hopefully this helps. Maybe some one out there has a better plan. My buddy used one of the tools available to remove the rubber but it still leaves the sleeve behind. Good Luck. JC

My buddy and me used the old air chisel too. We cut a split on the end of the shell with a dremel tool. Then we split the shell with the chisel. It's no fun however you do it.

Thanks for all the input folks - I've tried all the suggestions before, but was hoping someone had come up with a "miracle cure" - Never hurts to ask - Reed in Neb.

If you have acces to a press and welder, the welded washer trick works great. Most front shock washers are the correct size to weld to the shell in the control arm, don't be afraid to really cook the weld so they stay together. I use a cutoff wheel to split the sleave off the pin, with this method I can have a pair apart in less than half an hour.

same here , I weld in 1/2" steel flat washer , just the right size and then use a threaded rod and nut to push it out in the press , never had onenot come out , just be careful you don't weld the shell to the control arm ...

Removed the center rubber and sleeve then took a diamond shaped chisel, knocked the top overhang lip in, then drove the chisel down the inside a little. Used a screwdriver and the chisel/drift to collapse the bushing and out it came...

I used the American Muscle lower control arm pivot remover. Got it from Mancini, I think.

Worked well, not easy but still worked well.

IMPORTANT...........

don't just tack a couple of the sides of the washer. with that i just beat the washer off the sleeve. i had to almost weld the washer completely on the outer sleeve. worked like a charm but i wouldn't say it was as easy as pie

OH...... P.B Blaster helps too

YEP....That's exactly how I do it....Ive got it down to about 20 mins for a pair. You need a good press and an air chisel

the best way ive found done over 50 sets, is take mopar bumber bolts 66-74 with the built in washer fits perfect size of shell, drop it in lca shell flush bolt toward t-bar hex. four tack welds then pump them right out with my otc ball joint pressed operated with impact gun. just did them in my 68 hemi charger left no marks on lca pocket, air chisel is kinda hacky, watch out for press it loads up lca flanges to much and might bent them

I dig the inner sleeve and rubber out, then cut the outer with a torch. Does no damage to the arm if youre good with a torch. I have them down to about 10 minutes per bushing.

I use the washer and press but I put the washer inside after digging the rubber out. You can also use a torch to burn the rubber out. Works great.
