While not an absolute, pull the inspection cover off and look, you might be able to see the splines (and they look quite a bit different). Also you could look at the main bearing retainer, it is larger on the hemi ones (although the big blocks got the same ones).
While difficult, it should be possible to get a figure up and feel the splines you can tell the difference... - I have not tried though...
Also a 340 did not get the 18 spline, nor the big input shaft bearing, so it is not very likely (from what I remember from a conversation with Jamie Passon)... - although I have a big block 4-speed in my 340 73 cuda - but at one point someone machined the bellhousing out...

Pull the side cover and compare the gear tooth counts.
